I need to remove some paint from a large area of fibreglass. What's the quickest way of doing this? I was unsure if nitromors was okay?

Cheers

Does it need to come off altogether? As if you take it all off, you then have the trauma of getting new paint to stick to the fibreglass, e.g. will need etch priming.

If the existing paint is OK can you not just flat it down and paint over the top?

Your only option is to use a D.A. any form of paint striper will damage the composite structure. If you dont have to like Tom says try not to remove all the paint and if you do make the surface rough so the primer will key to it well if not it will peel like sun burnt skin.

Good luck lol. Just scotch it off! Then re prime over the top.

Unless you have painted it with Synthetic.

The problem is that its green and im painting mine white, so any stonechips in the future would show up alot more.

Looks like I'll have to dig out the sander then! :ohweel:

Lol, thats a lot of work to strip the paint off, just because stone chips might show up a little more, lol. How big are the stone chips in Chinnor? *hehe!*

Flat it back and paint over it, no need for primer, just hit it with the 2K

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Use an etch primer with fibreglass! Then top coat.

Lightweight racer coming soon.

I've stripped entire GRP cars with Nitromors. It's no problem as long as you do a small area at a time and don't leave on on too long. It only takes off one layer at a time so stop when you get down to the primer, which is so soft it's easy to sand off. By the way, etch primer contains phosphoric acid, to bite into aluminium. It has absolutely no effect on polyester resin!

I have used acetone in the past, working in small areas with a paint brush till it softens then wipe it off.

I agree *happy*

Get some steel on there

Although firbe glass has its place on a racer, just not a road car. IMO *wink*

Have a look at http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?pro...stSubcat=POR-15
it's what I have been using on my Marcos, and is safe on 'factory fibreglass'

Not to make it sound basic, but surely thats the stuff produced in a factory?! Rather than the stuff applied in your shed as a repair?
