Can it be done,
Looking at one in the flesh I would think so. Correct me if I’m wrong but the std S rod is 1.625" and the later crank pins are 1.749 that’s only .124".

I happen to have three sets In my possessions and would to use them, why! the problem is my steel crank (SC reclaim) is on 1.749" big ends so my only standard options are Steel rods or Standard rods. I just don’t think the standard rods would be up for 8800rpm for long,

by the way this is a N/A track engine.

Can you not grind the crank down?

Im sure A+ worked rods would be fine, I rev mine higher than that

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

I would use modified A+ items.

I remember a thread where Tom said "The Don" uses modified A+ rods and turns 9200rpm!

I hope im right in saying that rod bolts normally go before rods themselves, so i personally think a well work a+ rod will be fine.

Thanks surfari.

Quite a few people believe the standard rod bolts are a weak point. I personally would always use ARP in anything but a standard rebuild.

I'm believe the late A+ bolts were supposed to be ok.

Again I remember seeing a thread a long time since in which Carl Austin said he used late Metro bolts in his builds.

Whether he has changed his opinion or not since then I don't know.
