No English BK450 and Minispares down to their last 8 good AF470s according to the other thread......

So on my way to Stansted I stopped at every motor factor I know and tried - no luck....

A long shot, I tried Unipart just outside of Ipswich, didn't expect much luck as EVERYTHING on their shelves is branded Unipart so when I asked "do you stock any Payen gaskets" I was surprised at the answer "not exactly...."

So I asked "well who makes Unipart gaskets?" and the answer was "for Leyland/Rover, most likely Payen"

He couldn't get a cross reference on BK450 but did for AF470, and had one on the shelf.

There is no country of origin marking on the external packaging but on the gasket itself,

and,

and best still,

I'm 99% sure that's the old Payen logo.

I took the only one he had at Ipswich, none were showing at Colchester (which was a pity as I pass it on the way to Stansted) but, he said they have 162 showing at Unipart Central Warehouse (plus whatever number may be on the shelves at other depots).

And it was only £12.27 inc VAT despite not having an account.

EDIT - the Unipart number is GUG812632HG

So I suppose the best thing to do is ring your local Unipart dealer:

I would just suggest first checking it has the "made in England" embossed on the actual gasket - there is no guarantee that all Unipart's stock are the goods ones, but hopefully quite likely.

Interesting this because on the minispares web site it also gives a GUG part number but a different one.

http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=...7142&title=HEAD GASKET 1300 LATEST G...

but quotes it as a AF470 to.?

My mistake I looked on the right hand of the screen. But its the defo the same part number as per the description.

Just been having a look at the bk450 Im sending back, and it has the marks that you bekieve are the old payen logo, the gasket has been deemed a dud by Gavin, so not sure if you find is a good thing Rod?

The old Payen logo I think is the CP in a triangle.

What gave me confidence (???) about the Unipart one was the "made in England" stamp as well, even though the external packaging didn't have a country of origin marked.

The BK450 I sent back clearly had "made in Belgium" on the external packaging, but I never looked at the gasket itself as Gavin had just said any with the packaging marked Belgium were potentially bad....

What does the actual BK450 you have say on it (compared to the packaging) ???

There is always a possibility the tooling that forms them has simply been shipped abroad, in which case the stampings on the gasket becomes irrelevant and we would need to know more about what the actual defect is to compare them.......

The Bk450, as far as I can see does not have made in england on it, just the CP, but it is in the belgium packaging. I only noticed the CP mark as yesterday I fitted the unipart gug81 and noticed the mark on my head before I cleaned it to fit, just thought it was worth a mention.
