After some advice really. Had a search, but didn't really find much.

I want to keep my car build with a standard shell (no carbon fibre or fibreglass (cos they are gay!")).

I'll be having standard doors, but with central locking and a wood and pickett electric window kit (lighter than standard winders acording to the fentonator). I want to keep the standard door cards and don't want it to be obvious that they are modified.

So. Can I relieve some of the metal from the door frames behind the door cards with out loosing the strength needed to hold the standard windows in? And if so, how much can I loose?

I have spare scrap doors so I'm happy to get my hole cutter out at the weekend and wreck one...

EDIT: Just realised I have fully caught the TM disease! *surprised*

I want to stick with standard glass for now.

I have heritage skins to go on and will be building them myself, so ali is out of the question.

I guess I'll get the hole cutters out and butcher a scrap door. will put picture up for opinions...

I'm contemplating doing a similar thing, me and Paul were trying to decide where could be cut without losing strength as you said.

I would be interested in seeing your pics if your kind enough to share :)

I think matty had put some holes in his doors? I could be thinking of someone else though.

Aluminum skin & above door has not seen a hole saw, the hole thing was done with Q-Max punches which give a nicer finish in my opinion.

James, fooked doors will be up for grabs once I've finished the build. They are being used for test fitting all the ellectrics etc and I'll be using all the fittings etc on my good doors. Won't be free till next year though....

This is how mine turned out

I've spent about half an hour searching, but I can't bloody find what I'm looking for...

I'm fairly sure Rob H drilled a load of holes in his standard door hinges. Was wondering a) where have the pictures gone and b) would this be suitable for a road car???

Andy

did you compare the weight of the electric window kit over the old winders?

Didn't do a direct comparison, but the doors are about 2KG lighter than standard. The holes are only about 200g per door, but the lecky windows did seem a lot lighter than the regulator.

Thanks Rob, that's the pic I remembered.

Do you/anybody think the car would pass an MOT with hinges of that nature fitted?
