Hi guys,

sorry to post such a 10yr old's question!

But it appears, that after spending what seems the better part of my life, changing out my top arm bearings, i now have to turn my subframe towers inside out to get at these nuts which hold on these tower mounted bump stops.

Can it be so *surprised*

Can it be done with the suspension complete?

regards
Colin

If its the 2 bolt type you will have to fab a spanner to get at the nuts, OR
you could just cut the old one off with a suitable spinny thing and fit the singal bolt type :)

cheers paul,
i take it that its a right pain?
it got knocked off after finishing a full suspension swop!!
just a nut on the back, with a bent spanner then?

i think thers 2 x 5/16" nuts,

as paul sugests, i just whack them off with a hammer leaving the fixing plate and fit hydro type bumpstops to the top arm.

The way I do it, just grind through the "pip" visible from the wheelarch side, assuming the rubber block has fallen off and disappeared! When you have ground the weld off, knock the remains of the stud away from you with a hammer and punch, then fit the new one.

I know its a pain but I was faced with the same problem. Bit the bullet and took it apart only took quarter of an hour.

How much fafing around and time will it take to create a work round?

Not really. The bump stop is knackered anyway, so either do battle with a rusted stud and nut, using triple jointed fingers, or 2 min with the grinder and you are ready to fit the new one.
