Wow that was a funny day, I went along to bunters again in the mini with mini mag, for a feature on some different engined minis, and Richard Longman was there to drive the cars and give his thoughts on them. John K turned up in his demo car so was nice to see him there.

What i wanted to tell you was, I was going to have another go at getting a good top speed run, and betting my last poor effort lol, however once there, and being again another stunning hot day, one thought it best not to try a new land speed record for my car after all lol. It was so hot that on the way home at a careful 60 mph, my oil temp normally sits at 75-80 degrees, well being as careful as i could it was on 100+ a little degrees! If i drove to over took a lorry for example i could see the oil temp climb up as fast as I'm saying it to you now, never seen that before. After a couple of blasts around the track (only one lap), the car was on fire and i had to let it cool down. My car handles really badly atm, and Richard who i drove around, i didn't want to let him drive the car lol, said at one point he thought it was going to roll over in a bend! well at least he confirmed what i have been thinking now for a while lol. Not sure he liked the torque steer either.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

you really should get it done matt, i did mine, camber caster toe and corner weights, even with an open diff she always lights up both front tyres and goes pretty straight, if i have traction she stays dead straight. you wont regret it :)

Matt knows a good place in Norfolk for suspension set up - make a good tech feature as well, wink, wink

Matt must get an award for probably the only person to scare Richard Longman in a Mini ever - he was talking about it for a long time afterwards and Matt wasn't delibertely trying to scare anyone.lol!

we weren't speed testing but the man himself kindly maxed our Twink out everywhere for us, heal and toeing from the very first corner in a car he hadn't seen before - legend!

FYI 6800rpm in top, 165/60/12's 3.44 diff, 1:1 drops - work it out!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

not bad at all!

you've just propted me to go and check what the rev limiter is set to on mine...

7K which i have hit in the first 3 gears, not managed it in top yet though,

that works out to 1st 52mph, 2nd 77mph, 3rd 106mph.

not bad for 8 psi. :)

Matt its funny you should mention this as I had this conversation with Tony when we was all up at brunters, I was amased neither of you (both with 200hp+) had toyed much with your geometry, did suggest to him that it was worth the time and money.
Cheers
Shane.

Steve, when you did your 142.1mph run, what was the limit? was it the engine power or did you run out of road???
