Yeah that thread on Pistonheads was brilliant, can't imagine quite how good that would be to find in your garden!
I recall seeing a programme about the maisy battery when first discovered... just goes to show you never quite know what's been lost over the passage of time, even now over here we still get bunkers sealed since the war opened, unexploded ordinance found etc.
That link on the carriers is awesome pal, great stuff.... *smiley*
I'll maybe post some pics of tunnels/bunkers etc one day in another thread - don't want yours to go off topic! Look forward to more pics *smiley*

i have just read this post for the first time and wanted to say well done bringing back to life a piece of our history, as a long time WW2 re-enactor i never get bored seeing the huge amount military vehicles still turning up at shows. i have a good friend that restores all sorts of tracked and wheeled vehicles so i have a bit of an insite into what goes into it, i will be at beltring so will have a nose around to see if your there,

just a little update...

managed to fit a NOS speedo this had been sealled into its packet along with the switch panel 1942... i was the first person to see this stuff since it was packed up during the war !!!!!

slowly getting there with the armour, found a retired Rivetter who is showing me how to do it.... he is also going to lend me a big rivet hammer and snaps....

sent my engine away to get built... got some photo's back its worrying to see it being done on the floor ! got a phone call from Belcher Engineering who wanted to charge me £400 for a set of +20 thou big end shells and +30 thou mains !!!!!!!! went online 30 sec later found a set of shells for $90 (£65ish) what a pisstake ! stay clear of Belcher guys !!

stuck piston was removed with the application of coke (pop not the narcotic) poured down the bore and left over night next day....voila !

little bit worried that my end caps are now mixed up and the mains etc are all over the floor.......

the sump as removed.. i poured a shit load of AT fluid down the pots when i got the engine back to the UK and it has dragged all the crap out the engine into the sump..... YAK !

big end shells... i dont think they look too bad to be fair ! engine was last built in march 1945 (when it was recond)

gearbox.... first and second look pretty chewed up... no syncro's here guys its a "bang it in" jobby..

hahahahaha what get it cross drilled wedged etc :) this heeeeowge balance makes them tick over so smooth..... the shells dont look that bad in my opinion..... could not believe that Belcher wanted 400 notes for a set of shells !! this screams of when i had my crank done on the mini turbo ! the engineering firm wanted 100 notes for a set of shells i paid circa £20 from green and white ! why do they do this to folk !?

Due to go to France June 2016 (granted the paint will need to change before I take it)

Going to Morrisons is a hoot !!!! Being from this community i struggled to keep the engine standard.... As a result it now has Johnson adjustable lifters, ARP head and rod bolts, stromberg 97 carb, electronic ignition and a facet fuel pump.... The museum lot went berserk ! It's all removable, but as I said on them whilst the engine started first click... You can't put a price on those extra banana's and curly whurlies (a blank look was received)

On the footage you actually see her walking into the road in front of the carrier !

I unveiled her at the 2014 W&P show which was nice, through the carrier fraternity I met a chap who's grandfather served in the same platoon as mine !!!! Hence the magazines got wind and the article came about. The restoration has been a labour of love, I really miss my grandfather, and in a small way the restoration has helped me deal with his loss... The carrier is painted and numbered as his was.
http://youtu.be/vUojqBlXnwg

It has been a steep learning curve, and the military group as a whole are a very different entity than here... I initially found that it's a fight to get anything, and very cut throat indeed... However since joining the local forums etc I took a part of TM spirit with me and now people club resources together to reproduce items etc etc.... It's a much better place now.

I had to learn how to set rivets which was fun, I now take on regular work from other collectors.... Not quite up to boiler standards but I am getting there !!

Here are the first rivets going in

I cascade trained my 13 year old son and now he can do it too

And to close off the thread... Went to France, absolutely fantastic !! Chap approached me and bought the carrier, so she has gone to a new home, what a journey it has been !!

Now looking for a decent mini project for my son who is approaching 17 !

(Might even consider one for myself again...perhaps see it through this time)
