Are these the same thing? And if so, can't a just get a bov from a different company, and use it instead of the usual dump valve that everyone uses?

yep same thing, you can just get a generic one of ebay.

i have heard of issues with bailey ones sticking though, aparently the seals expand if fuel gets on them causing the piston to stick.

The piston ones are ok if they have the viton seal, you clean them out every now and again or mount them facing downwards.

I was thinking more one from turbonetics or greddy, a little more expensive, but i think it would do the job well.
