spent an age today getting the ignition map somewhere near on the canems kit. had the car running, but had a constant misfire on number 3 cylinder. swapped the plug and lead, still there.
thought the ford coil pack might have gone, so i slaved in another, still missing on no 3. its a misfire throughout the rev range. checked the compression on all 4 cylinders. between 12-13 on the gauge so all ok. then noticed the blower had blown the teflon gasket from between the blower and the mounting plate slightly. it sucks in air on low revs then once boost comes on it then blows out the gap.

would this cause a constant misfire on no 3 cylinder????

i have a horrible gut feeling!!

balls to the blower!!!

compression test will not allways show, a nearly gone gasket, or a bad valve.
try to blow compressed air thru a old spark plus modified, to adapt an air connector, the air will find is way to the adjacent cylinder, manifolds, or water way, it will highlight a faulty gasket without levelling the head.
did you check your valve lap? plug color?
then you can put on a dizzy, it will confirm or not an ignition truble.though I would start there

By the very nature of a coilpack, if it was electrical, no 2 should be affected pretty much the same (as the same coil in the pack fires 2 and 3 together, hence the phrase "wasted spark").

Having said that, if no 3 is borderline mechanically for whatever reason and the sparks are all weak, it might show on one cylinder only.

I'm not familiar with Canems, but is it firing the coilpack direct (ie, no EDIS unit required) and, if so, are your dwell and spark durations adequate - the Ford coilpacks are (allegedly) quite sensitive to dwell and duration when being driven direct by ignitors within an ECU.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
