im 99% sure the headgasket has just blown..

sudden loss of power and it wouldn’t start back up, quick check under the bonnet shows black deposits all over the thermostat end of the head and water pump.

didn’t really want to work on the arse wipe of a car so have just left it in the garage.. where i ended up pushing it back home.

will have some 'TM' cavalry coming round so will do a compression test tomorrow, then pull it apart...

this hasn’t happened to me before, so what’s the worst case scenario? is it a case of new gasket and away i go or is there likely to be more to it?

Just the gasket, oil change, water change

Its a bugger but fixable easily tomorrow night

not too bad then.. will check the local motor factors tomorrow for a gasket, just checked and i don’t have a spare :(

kean managed to get one from a unipart place somewhere round here last week, should be able to have it back up and running in time for avon i reckon if you can get hold of one.

I've got a proper turbo manifold gasket here i'll bring over tomorrow.

mine just went on sunday there(now sorted!), but its a regular occurence for me haha, loads of practice..Youve plenty of time to sort it mate! jus thope you get one of the good gaskets

Mine used to last only a few thousand at a time.

I even got so fed up once...I didnt even remove the head when changing lol. ( it always blew clean between 2-3

I unbolted head, removed the studs, prised the head up and slid the old gasket out, and slide a new one in, and hey presto.

Not that I'd always reccomend that route lol.

I have known much more complicated repairs done in the camping field of avon park.

Yeah, my first year at Avon consisted of a head gasket change in the field, all part and parcel of the experience lol

well good news is after a compression test all was ok, no HG probs.

Turned out to be the jet in the carb was blocked.. hence sudden loss of power.

The black deposits on the water pump were from the fan belt that had rubbed on the trigger bracket!

It back up and running, hope it just needs a fine tune before the weekend.

Thanks again to Kean and Nick for the help and for the excessive use of tape and cable ties that now fill my engine bay :)

you can fix anything with bodge tape and cable ties dude

Well, I still need to get tracking done as have fitted a new rack, finish the breather system in hope that it cure my heavy breathing issue, find a trailer to tow it on, as too scared to drive the thing, oil change. And god know what else? Eeek! would rather just a head gasket change tho, any day.
