thought id better do my little write up ,as i do each year ..

so ..
spent friday frantically finishing the paint on the mk 1 ,thinknig we may bring it up to avon ,but the paint and the weather would not have been a good mix since it started raining so prudence and her sister caution took over ,and we left it at home to set(like a new cake ).

so off at 8 ish in the spud and astra .
drizzly a little but not much ,got to the site at 9 odd ,and embarked on the fun of creating a tent with no memory of how the blimmen thing went up last year ! got it up in the end ..

at this point denis and colin and a couple of mated turn up ,and poor v and c get exposed to' total turbo mini speak' ,in fact it was the most words iv heard from denis EVER , i think he may have been drinking ..

the girls said later they thought he was great and they love to hear him swear in scots !,so there you go denis ...how to impress the ladies !
by now too adrenalized to sleep to finally nodded off at 2.30 .

saturday morning was a bit damp ..
afternoon seemed a bit more promising and we all trooped out to see how we could do .
hmmmm

not very impressed with my times ,staggered to a

getting used to the track ,and trying to wind on boost with a valve ,and change gear ,meant i was only getting a bit of boost above 10 psi at the top end .
so that was it for racing ,evening was spent chatting to the chaps ,then try to catch up on a bit of sleep .
suday dawned ,clear ,then with a bit more drizzle ,after a honking rainy night ..
having had a think ,and a gander at the logs of my runs , i closed up the plugs ,wacked in some octane booster( scored off nic ,most opportunely ..)and hacked a indiscriminate amount of brass off the needle ,much to the amusement of colin ,paul and gary ..also borrowed shanes pump to set tyre pressures at what i thought was 25 psi ,instead of 35 and 26 as they had been yesterday (did i mention i was tired ?)later set them at 20 psi ..

so off we go for another try ..

first off i must thank my crew chief chloe , i was having a problem with the boost control ,,,,,
if i wound it up to say 15 psi at the end of a run ,then i didnt know where i was at the start of the next run ,if i would it fully home then it now ,for some odd reason ,takes about 5 turns before it has an effect ,so im frantically winding the knob about 10 turns whilst trying to change gear etc ..
she suggested close it down ,then open it 5 turns ,and launch on that ..

15 psi at top end .much much happier .

my best possible (thats the fastest segments from all runs added together ) is 13.795s@105.64mph.

up from 13.89 last year ..

still a bit dissapointed ,but happy with the near 106 terminal ,,,

was that the 2nd fastest 5 port terminal ?

i think i was 5th fastest 5 port time ?

i also hit a 83.26mph 1/8 th mile , id like to know how that translates in the 1/4 ?

id felt that the tyres were slipping on the run ,there was no kick on the gear change ,but on the last run i realized as i changed to 4th ,massive clutch slip! at last lol..it went to the rev limiter for about half a second before gripping ,,so i think we can safely say ,either that plate is worn out or im at the point of needing more friction or pressure .

apart from my fun , highlights of the day were having the pleasure of seeing nic get a bit more serious with his 'im going to kill these tyres' burnout ,and the SHOCKING 120 mph speed ,it would appear his winter development may just have released a few more horse power !

AS FOR DENIS ,WELL!!!closest thing iv seen to a top fuel mini , just straight and true up the track and totally ballistic ,massively deserved triumph

fascinating to compare the understated glaswegian ,'',aye well ,itll dea ah suppose' 'from denis ,and the helium inflated nic boinging up and down like a 25 psi rubber ball , grinning so much youd think his head would actually fall in half .whilst feeling they were both equally thrilled lol.

especial well done to fab and denis for thier collossal travelling distances , i think fab was 800 odd miles and denis 700 round trip .. .urgh !

so time for a bit more clutch tyres and boost i think .

Good results there Robert and a good write up.

Sounds like everyone had a great time. In fact, I've not heard any moans yet, only comments on the queues, but that's what you get with events worth attending.

please BIN these tires !!!, and use some proper ones for racing ( at least at front), it will serve the work and mind you used and put in your mini.
enjoyed the input about the distance covered this week end, would I make it again, ?
YES!!!! but with the mini on the trailer in my back,and then never again without, even if I would have to use all day and night before to come with it, then will not forget to put some paracetamol in my pocket before going , sunday morning was HARD .
