Ive had a hand in helping a friend with his B class car. He did well running a 14.9 but missed out on the win by .03secs.
Anyone know what won the class? Sprocket, Keith, do you know?
Oh and well done Keith on 3rd.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

According to the BMC website, Class B was won by James Bond !

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

What kind of spec are they running to pull a 14 in a 1275(93)?

Cheers Paul, disapointed with my times this year, planned to go a wee bit quicker rather than slower.

The guy who won is on the right in this picture

Didn't know his name but it's James Bond according to the BMC results. He was driving a Mini Van XDL 392L (think it was light green or grey) I didn't see it run but briefly spoke to him at the prize giving. He said it was an old Metro engine with an old 296 cam he had lying around and a head.Had been rolling roaded at 75bhp (don't know if flywheel or driven wheels) Said he didn't know what final drive he was running as it was just the standard Metro box, he did say he was in 4th over the line. He said it weighs about 500kg and is his daily driver.

It would be interesting to know more.

14.914 sec 1/4 mile @ 91.38mph, NA 1293cc on 1.1/2" SU's (all steel and glass shell)

Basically a Miglia engine with a different cam and bigger valves

I seriously doubt it!

Cheers Keith, I dont believe 75hp, must be a bit more than that at the wheels - atleast 85 Id say even with only 500kg

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I think my car must be heavier than the moon, need to try and get it weighed! I've got just under 120 bananas at the flywheel so the only progress now will be weight loss.

Paul, what final drive is your friend running? I'm thinking of altering the final drive for MITP and can't get my head round whether to go higher or lower. There isn't much torque so I'm leaning towards a 4.3 (running a 4.1 just now and only pulling 6,900rpm over the line)

Cheers,
Keith

Wheres your peak power Keith? I think 4.3 would be too far for you, Chris (my mate) runs a 3.7 on 13" wheels but we are changing that soon.

I seriously doubt it!

75 at the wheels!?!?

Mine is 88 at the wheels on a 3.65FD, changing into fourth a little before the line, but the car is a heavy muther hubbard compared to the top runners.

I would like to know what makes the 14.96 too, clearly weight has a lot to do with it.

I have no idea where i stand in class B as BMC again dont seem bothered that there were many other entrants that want to know their results.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

a couple of years ago my friend won B class with a 15.5 sec run, basically a standard MG metro engine with a home ported head, skimmed head (but no idea on CR, he just had it skimmed) a 276 cam and a 3.4 final drive

OK, Chris has a fully worked crank and rods the same as mine, Omega pistons (1293) and Selby full race head. 120 bananas @ the fly on Lynx Racing RR. Car weighs around 550kg.
More power to come and more weight to be lost. As his water temp was a bit high Lynx retarded his ign by 4 degrees which lost around 15 bananas.
He had never driven this engine before and the only running in it had was on the rollers, we believe he can easily do mid 14s at Pod next month

Paul, sorry for the break in communication there, was working nightshift and am not long up.

The rolling road guy was a bit nervous and wouldn't take it above 7500, so it had 117 at the flywheel and was still climbing, I reckon it would be 120 @ 8000, torque is peaking at 83 lbft at 6800. Obviously the numbers are just that, numbers, but I know where it is peaking. Going to try and get to a weighbridge this weekend and find out the actual weight. I've got a 3.7, 3.9 and 4.3 final drives sitting. Decision time.

Good spec on your mates car, didn't see it run at Avon, in fact didn't see much run, to busy queueing and chatting. Be good to see it at MITP, especially doing at mid 14!
