got a constant misfire on no3 cylinder. changed everything ignition wise for new so i know that side of things is good. compression check is well into the green on the gauge on all cylinders, so again, tickety boo. no air leaks as i have just made all new gaskets out of 1.5mm copper.

no oil or water loss anywhere either.

what you all think. i think i have a knackered valve or something like that. anyone suggest anything before i spend a week doing it?

Could check the rocker clearances, make sure the valves are closing fully, though if comp is OK its more likely to be ignition

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

leeds/wakefield.

the valve could be expanding with heat though Paul and closing the gap.

stu, do the compression check when the engines hot it could be as pointed out the valve sticking in the guide.

especially if you are using manganize guides.

they are the bronze guides so that is a poss. so...... check clearances on rockers, hot compresion check and check valve stickage, leak down test. if they fail, head off. (which is an absolute cunt!)

you could try some forte top-end treatment in the inlet, have doen this before on small block(16v fly by wire throttle) vauxhalls that suffer badly from sticky valves, sometimes cures it permenantly sometimes cures it for a few hours, but is a pretty sure fire way of identifying sticky valves on these lumps :) never tried it on an "A" though.

if this is the case stu the guides will require reaming, i suspect this has not been done ?

with you only living at hull, you could pop over and i will sort it for you in the same day!
