I'm currently running my 16v on Yamaha R1 ITBs, and would ideally like to keep these when i convert to turbo - but i'm having trouble finding anything on running turbo and individual throttle bodies.

I suppose i'd just need to fabricate a plenum to bolt onto the TBs? anyone any experience of this?

Its not common and tricky to set up...

think nissan as the only people to do it production wise in great numbers.

Its easier to create a new plenum based on the ITBs with the butterfiles removed - and then use a new single TB at the end of the plenum.

where does the difficulty arise? i'm running megasquirt if thats any help/hinderence.

i've found this

its actually in a 'bolt-on and go' turbo kit for an R1, so that would bolt right onto my bodies. I was thinking of making something along those lines but with the inlet to one side due to the space in the engine bay.

Matty made an ITB plenum on his build:

Don't know if he stuck with it though.

In getting a stable MAP reading to allow tuning. Single TB is by far the easiest, and will not hurt performance at all.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Its a nightmare to balance air flow through the ITBs

MAP signals are unclear (not good in a turbo application.

All in all its a pain and not a necessary one.

hmmm i understand how that would be the case :(

i suppose i could ditch the throttle bodies, but still keep the manifold, and use the same silicon hose to attach an inlet with a single throttle body to one side - much like Matty did with his 16v in the link above.

Problem then is i lose my injectors, which are currently in the throttle bodies - i'd have to modify my £££ inlet manifold :(

Would the MAP still not be stable enough even if T'd from all 4 inlet runners? I'm currently injecting nitrous in that manner - single pipe split with special fitting to 4 outlets, one to each runner. Could i not take that back to the ECU and have a stable enough reading?

Sorry for the lots of questions... soaking up all the info here!

Take the butterflies out of the ITBs

Use them as injector housings.

Then make up a plenum with a single TB on the end for air volume control.

Simples
