Working up the BHP ladder.

Anybody know if the comms cable is a simple RS232 or is it something funky?

yep,232.

if you have a pcmia slot in your lap top i'd recomend a pcmcia to232 card over a usb converter.

Rick, its not difficult at all. The RS232 is just referring to the type of lead that goes from the MegaJolt to a laptop/computer so you can alter all the settings. If you get stuck shout up.

What you want to look for is a 9 pin serial extension cable. I have loads at work I might dig out
