Hi guys, has anyone fitted an electronic boost controller. Can it be done to a mini without having an ECU and is there any major advantage over a bleed valve setup?
cheers

It can be done, i toyed with the idea some time ago when i found some good jap equipment going cheap on ebay. I talked to the seller and from what he said it was entirely posible (but was he just trying to sell it to me?) But i couldnt be bothered with the hassle to be perfectly honest.

In the end i bought a boost control valve but havnt even bothered to put that on yet.

Really gotta stop being so lazy

What do they actually do, are they just a flashy regulator that allows you to bleed off variable amounts of boost to the actuator?*oh well*

Real high end electronic boost controllers are only really good for drag racing. They just allow you progressivly control the boost from start to finish so you dont have to leave the line under full boost and just kill the tires, but you will be under full boost by half to 3/4 track.

No real benefits over a manual controller for street driving other that the flash factor.

It can be installed without an ECU as most complete controllers will come with and Increase and Decrease solenoid that is plumbed into the controller, an engine vacuum port, and the waste gate in series.

I'm hoping to fit this litle gadget:

It's a stand alone system. I'm afraid we won't be able to use the knocksensing (no hydraulic lifters, engine too noisy), but otherwise it should provide in-car boost adjustment! And fairly cheap, I bought the set-up complete from a Saab breaker for 100 euros.

Enjoy,
