the plastic fan keeps fouling the standard timing chain cover on my engine. I can't bash it in because then the cover touches the timing chain.

I don't have a spare but, if it helps, what I did to a standard one was not bash it in, but I cut 6mm (depth) of the outer curve off all the way around with a thin cutting disk, sqaushed the wire mesh filling a bit, and welded a flat plate on. Photo was more to show the trigger wheel but you can see how I just cut the curved bit off the flame trap and welded a flat bit on.
