A long shot i know, but if you don't ask you don't get.

Looking for a set of spectrum wheels (or minispeed copies).

6.5 inches wide, would consider 7's.

Preferably with 3" inners and 3.5" outers.

Colour really doesn't matter.

Cheers, Oli.

Oli.

Not sure you'll get Spectrums anymore but as an alternative, is it possible to get MB Racing 10 inchers.

Not sure if Mike Barnby Engineering sold the rights for the 10 inch wheel to Spectrum. Can recall Mike said something on those lines the last time I was up there in 1996 picking up the wife's 13x7 split rims for her Cooper Grand Prix.

The last time I went to Kent, Mike was on tel no: 01634 711801.

I see there's a good shot of an MBE wheel in this months Mini Mag (Summer Issue 163 top of page 90) but as I said, it might be a waste of time if Mike doesn't have the manufacturing rights for 10's anymore. Bloody gorgeous wheels.

Good luck.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Mike still makes his splits but you'll have to wait a while for a set!! I think 10s are the only ones he does.

Richard, I bloody love MB's! I rang ml motorsport not too long ago, and i asked about the wheels, and they gave me a price which i wrote down somewhere; they were more expensive than force racing wheels if IRC, but theres a pretty long wait for them.

Spectrum wheels seem to prove impossible to get hold of, as you would expect.

Im just going to save some more pennies at the moment, and get myself some force wheels, i think.

Admittedly I'm biased, but if you are forking out what is a lot of money to most of us for a set of wheels, you should not have to be doing the chasing in order to get them. You should pay the money, and then get a schedule for the wheels to be made to your width and spec, and then barring problems you should receive your wheels when said.

I know for a fact that if you buy from Carl this is what will happen.

its better than this Tom, when i ordered mine i ordered 1/2 inch to wide (this fraction stuff is rubbish) carl resolved the problem foc for me even though it was my fault

you wont get that from minispeed

Like I said I'm biased. But if you have to chase and chase to get them in the first place, what happens if you then touch a kerb and need a new rim, your car is then stuck with three wheels whilst you chase and chase again to try and get a replacement rim?

Some very good points you have made there Tom.

I had a quick chat to you about the wheels in brighton, although so probably did many other people. And the quality of the wheels is unbelievable and an out standing price to match.

leeds/wakefield.

i don't normally contribute to threads like this but, and its a big but,

about 4 years back i was contacted by one of the mini miglia drivers, word was that getting wheels and more importantly spare rims from Mike Barmby was getting in his words not mine, " almost impossible" it was deduced that mike was only interested in supplying one or two top names , even in the miglia circles, so the rest of the club litterally could not get there hands on MB wheels without a 6 month wait, useless if your racing and maybe need to replace damaged rims withing a short timescale,

this is how it works with me,

last monday i receive a tel call from someone using my converted minispecials on the circuit, he needs a damaged rim replacing asap,, i explain that i need the doner wheel back to me to make sure i can fit the rim to it,
the rim arrives the next day , i drop whatever it was i was doing [machining drive shafts] sort out the rim ,polish it, and ship the whole lot back to him the following morning , he receives rim two days later because it takes two days for the post office to deliver, all in all 4 days turnaround ,

because if and when i can i will deliver on time everytime,

as a side note i now have a number of miglia drivers taking rims from me to replace the rims they have damaged on there MB and spectrum wheels, simpley because its a less stress full option,

i didn't want this to turn into a sales pitch, but thats just how i am,

carl

I'm guessing there's considerably more profit to be made from the historic motorsport wheels so the Mini ones come second.

To be honest, although not for wheels, I have dealt with Carl on 2 occasions and have had sterling service both times - and one of them was a one off machining job.

When I get round to replacing my Superlites, it'll definitely be a call to Carl for some 13" splitties.

Carl, could you get a Spectrum outer rim copied?

I seriously doubt it!

Managed to pick up a set of 4 Mini Special alloys at Blaise Castle Mini Show a couple of weeks ago for £35.

Bloody hell they're light.

I like the idea of converting them to splits for the van, they do look great.

I've seen photo's of a couple of sets on TM but would love to see more if anyone has any shots, particularly if fitted on the car.

Have you considered these Oli ?

Yeah, i have, i saw those Exacton wheels at blaise, and thought about it, but i thought i'd hold out abit for spectrums, which have proved impossible to get, so its back to the drawing board.

Here's Rob Gavin's build thread, he's got some on his mini. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=292045

How wide are you thinking of going Richard?
