Ok Here we go,
As some of you know I build race Minis cars for the Irish mini Challenge, I have been conjuring up a design for a Championship wining Mini for nearly 3 years now and have been plagued by project runaway,

The project started life as a late 87 shell that was to be race prepared on a budget and entered into the championship in 2007: o. That did not happen due to one thing or another. I then abandoned the hole project as I moved to a much bigger premises in early 2008. I was flat out between running HRE and my other company Complete Training and never got a chance to look at the project though I had changed the plan a lot at this stage.

In late 2008 after a fantastic season mini racing and two of my 1380 5 port minis getting a 2nd and 3rd in championship against 2 KAD 16v minis and a junk load of 1480’s. I decided This car would need to be something really special to Give them KADS a run for there money. That’s when I set on my Hair brained Idea for the Rear suspension setup.

At this point I was going to make the engine a BMW headed 16v Twin Turbo monster but later decided that that engine is going to be better suited to another project car. When I got the Notion “Wouldn’t it be nice to win the IMC Championship with A 5 port 1380.

I then bought a very neat piece of Software called Dynomation, I had heard about it in an article David Vizard had written in Mini Mag. It was fantastic I was able to plug all I knew to date about 1380 race motors, and then really start playing with port velocities, cam duration, timing, lift, compression ratios and much much more.

I finally settled on a spec that I taught would yield around 140 hp and 110 FtLbs. This may not seem like a lot but I recon that with my unique suspension setup and a very trick gear ratio setup I should be able to knock 4 seconds of our current best lap times in last years 1380 car. If this was possible we should be in with a real good chance of wining next year.

Anyway enough with all this jabbering where am I with this:

Well here is some pic of the shell to date

Anyone guess what’s going on with this little mod?

The engine block is away at this time having the 4 bolt main machined. here is its nice crank

Here is some pic of the flywheel I have come up with,

Here is the cylinder head Turbo Phil has given me a great hand with this doing all the, Porting,Chamber work as well as making custom 6mm valve guides and offseting the Exhaust guides. I have done the dry deck work as well as some trick CNC valve seat machining pic of that I'm afraid are on there way

During the week I hope to :

Get a top coat of paint on the inside.
Fit roll cage.
Fit seat.
Fit rear parcel shelf
And make up some rose jointed bottom arms for the rear sus.

Sorry for such a stupid long post, hope you find it interesting

I will do my best to keep this updated once a week until completion which I hope will be the end of September (I just don’t know what year)

Thanks Lads,
Joe the Exhaust is something I worked out on Dynomation, In order to make the best out of the cam and cylinder head setup I found I had to have some weird primarys the only way to fit them in, was to creat what I can only describe as a weber box for the Exhaust.

Oli yes I have a Derrington manifold and a Weber IDA 48 for fueling

This seems to be a very 'free' championship. I know someone who's just bought a Manx 7-port, which I presume was used in this championship. Are there any regs at all? any links to cars, championship, that kind of thing?

4 seconds a lap seems a massive target, be interesting to see how it all works out.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination,
talk about starting off with a clean sheet of paper, then not bothering to fucking draw on it,lol

thanks for sharing paul , looks really interesting.have you got your dynomation model to mimic the real world figures ?5 port sims can be fun .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

Wil the championship is very open It is only in its 3rd year so as yet there is no Web site,
If you Go to
W www.britexcooper.com there is some good info on there.
4seconds is Masive Wil I realy don't know if I can pull it off but I'm going to die trying.

Robert Dynomation is Probly the best Sim package I have ever used. It is a yank software and as such is designed around the 5port type, it has taken a good bit of fidling to get it near real world figures, It still reads a little low but that suites me.

Is this still an ongoing project, or has it been abandoned in favour of something else?
