hello,

my project is at an end, its ready for MOT apart from 1 thing, the distributor.

when i brought the engine this diz that was on it was shot, so for the time being so i could check that all was well engine wise i put a points diz in it from the engine that came out. i know full well that this is not up to the job, but it worked, standing in my garage in neutral and rolling in and out the garage about 4 feet.

i have just brought a new turbo diz 42661a vacuum pot number 15 160 12, ive checked my sources and is a turbo diz,( if not please say) the module on this is 3 pin, i dont have a 3 pin adaptor, will need one.

i have also been told that the dizzy is going to need to be taylored to my engine, expensive!.

basicly, before i go into a rant. . . i would very much appreciate it, if somebody could help me, advise or show right direction.

i want to fit this dizzy and have it working safly without pinking, so that i can MOT and drive...

its really stressin me out, lol, im goin bald
*frown*

any help appreciated
thanks guys.

Carnforth, Lancs

The leads are available - icklemini makes them and sells on ebay I think.

Having the advance curve altered is something Aldon could do at around £50+VAT

If you have a turbo dizzy, you don;t need to get it adjusted to your engine for even a moderate increase in power.

Even if you do - you just need to reduce the amount of advance, which is just blobs of metal on the advance stop - real easy to do!

I have never had, but have seen, the three pin connectors - but it will be really easy to figure out the pins - or find this adaptor Graeme mentions...

The three pin connector is really the same as the two pin connector on all the other early electronic dizzys - because only two of the three pins are used.

So the wiring is essentially the same.

However, the electronic modules (two or three pin) are wired differently to the points type dizzy and they also use a different coil, so you need to re-wire anyway when you change to any electronic dizzy.

Unfortunately I only have the wiring connections for the two pin type and I don't know which of the three pins, the two wires go to on the later modules.

But if you get it wrong, you will fry it.....

If you can get a second hand three pin plug from a breakers with the (two) wires attached, Haynes shows the correct colours to go where in their wiring diagrams

just put it together , time it at max advance ,so at say 4k rpm at 28 degrees ,vacuum pipe off the dizzy ,and use very low boost , ,and dont use boost if you can avoid it unless your set up and sure its rich enough ,,then you can get it set up at a rr .

the wires go to the top and bottom pins if the one i've got here is right.

with the full side of the metal clip facing to the right as you look into the connector the top wire is white/yellow and the bottom wire is white/black
