any IT bods out there who can help me please or point me in the direction of a site with a numptys guide?

i want to know if its possible play the mp3's from my pc upstairs on my laptop whilst downstairs in the garage?

both are running xp, the laptop is wireless and the pc is wired.

should be able to do it through your network if you share the drive on the pc, then you can remotely access it. cant remember the exact process - its ages since i did it. sorry mate

Right click > share folder

then \computer_name from the other one.

i'm halfway there, went into a windows wizard thing to setup a workgroup. gave my laptop and pc the same workgroup name etc.

my pc can see the laptop but my laptop wont show the pc.

selected the folders i want to share with the network from my pc and tried the computer_name thing and it don't do owt *Confused*

nono, computer_name = whatever you called your computer
(right click on My Computer, then it's set in there somewhere)


Also, it's backslashBackslashComputername- but it doesnt show both slashes on here.

lets try this..
\\\\computer_name

yeah i figured it was the actual computer name, i'm not *that* much of a noob lol.

just keeps saying on the laptop that windows can't find it

Check that file and printer sharing are turned on on the desktop.
