Now then,

i've got this vauxhall engined clubby and the bloke i bought it off said it has allegro outer cv's on it.

I think they use a larger driveshaft spline?

Is this right? Anyone know the dimensions so i can check it as the allegro seem to be the same as a cooper S when looking on ebay?

Dont want to order the wrong ones and need to get that side shaft back in asap.

I will measure the shaft tomorrow but thought someone might know off the top of there head! *happy*

i think th maxi cv is the larger one that is some times used on minis with the big shafts.

there was a thread on this a whill back, i'll see if i can find it.

it was the maxi that had the larger drive shaft splines was it not, i thought the All agro used the same as disk minis.

Ah right,

He explained it to me the wrong way round!

Anybody know the ID/OD of a maxi CV/shaft?

From what i have seen the all agro (i like!) uses the same as a mini.

cheers chaps!

The allegro 1750 used the same splines as the mini for the drive flange, but had a larger 'Joint' and driveshaft splines.

The Maxi joint has a larger drive flange spline but has the same diameter 'joint and driveshaft spline as the allegro, both of which are larger than the Mini 'joint' and driveshaft spline

It is the allegro 1750 ones you want, if you can still get the driveshafts. The maxi joint is useless to our purpose.

all agro 1750 sounds it then!

I have the custom vaux/all agro shafts (nice bit of kit, all machined rather than cut and shut!) so thats not a problem, guess finding a joint is!

So basically, allegro uses the same wheel bearings/disc/drive flange spline size etc, but increase on joint diameter and driveshaft spline

Not sure, he said he had them custom made, but that could mean he got them from allspeed! *happy*

Hmm, they want £180 for a pair of cv joints!!! He did say tehy cost £500 for the shafts, which including the CV's it comes to so guess it could be them.

Only need one cv as apparently when z cars made the frame up they damaged one so he took it out and just cut and shut a mini and vauxhall shaft to keep it rolling and moveable. i wouldnt want to trust it though!!!

Anyone got any really good motor factors?!

if i get 5 mins at work tomorrow i will ring around some of the factors we use.

So its a 1750 Austin Allegro, and you just need one outer CV. What years was the correct vehicle/model??

allspeed outer joints have a vauxhall spline, im 99% sure. they were custom made for allspeed. i looked into them when i sheered a shaft on my mini, went one piece in the end with regular mini outers.

cut and shut shafts are as weak as the bit where they enter the mini cv joint, ie there as strong as normal mini shafts. and mine were perfectly adequate up to 200hp in daily use :)

what im getting at is, an allegro cv wont fit your shafts.. im pretty confident. PM MattG on the 16vminiclub, he used to deal wiht allspeed alot and my abe able to help *wink*

Evo,

Like i say the bloke i bought them off said he had them custom made and that it was an allegro CV joint, i only thought they may be allspeed when it was mentioned on here.

I'll take come measurements tomorrow but i'm sure its an allegro one as the bloke who sold it was pretty good with all the stuff he'd done on the car.

no worries, and hope it is allegro! .. i was planning on having custom shafts made using there outer joints, but at near 100 odd quid a joint, and the miles i do i couldnt justify it, and avaliability of allegro outers put me off them too .. so stick with changing my mini joints every year or so!

I changed from AMT shafts and aggro CV's to Allspeed shafts and outer CV's.
The newer ones are more beefy.
Allegro shafts and mini disc shafts are different, the mini circlip is nowhere near fitting the aggro shaft.
The aggro cvs at minispares are a suprise, find out if they have the correct circlips too!

bugger, this is getting complicated!!!

so they may be AMT shafts? or custom?

I'm going to just have to measure everything and see what fits. i have some of the old damaged CV but not that actual joint, only the drive flange end, not the actual "joint" so to speak.

So much for just getting a new CV!

the way I understood it was you needed the JKD special shafts to use the Allegro CV joint, for that very reason

I'd hedge my bets on this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=120450665040

before spending £100 at minispares. It doesn't look brand new as he states, but it will tell you if you need to spend the big money or not....

Oh my dear freaking jesus, the first factor i ring, its in at their torquay branch!

And the best bit, £40 all in and that includes the surcharge.

So let me know and i can have it later on today if needed, and can post it out. I would have thought £45 would cover it to be posted out to you.

That's a 1982 1750 Allegro outer CV joint.

Just let me know.
