Hi all.

weird idea..this is the grand idea so far:

BMW 16head GT 1752 turbo clutch mounted with side exit shorty exhaust (bike style). ergo the tunnel under the bottom is not used.

water to air charge cooler. fitted directly to the plenum. (add: that
would be under the bonnet where it belongs..NOT the rear)

but where to stuff the needed radiator?

I would wager a guess that a few heater matixes would suffice coolling wise. i would like to stuff a plenum in the rear subframe and use the now unused space of the tunnel to stuff in an air intake.

does anyone ever try and suck air from the bottom of the car? i know the sides are pretty useless for getting air.

I'm going to be putting air ducts in my diffuser to get air into my boot mounted radiator.

not got that far yet but the idea is there.

That title make no sense when you consider the content of your post.

A number of the guys with Starlet conversions run a radiator in the boot floor. An electric fan sucks the air from under the car & out through holes in the boot lid.

That could be good. Then get a bodykit around the car and create low pressure under the car. Suck the car onto the road lol.

Obviously if space is short then the chargcooler with radiators in the back is the obvious route and has been done by many in different cars.

I have been trying to think of a worse place to put an air intake than where you suggest. So far you win. Perhaps under the drivers seat would be worse, but at least it would be dry.

I think the post is confusing, and a few people have got the wrong end of the stick.

my take is that the air-intake proposed is for cooling to the heater matrix in the boot, rather than the fresh air for the engine. The mention of a plenum in the boot also seem erroneous.

As it goes, taking the air for the rads in the boot using the tunnel seems obvious, and should work better than using the sides of the car.

I would suggest using a thinner rad with a bigger surface area rather than the small thick heter matrix.

Use an airconditioner condenser, either automotive or household type.
Cheap, light, the right size & shape, usually aluminium alloy.

.

yep..

but rather than sticking the radiator in the boot i was thinking of a plenum with the rad in it fitted inside the rear subframe.

the idea that you can sort of ''ram air'' the lot.

i will look into AC condensers.. thanx for the heads up.

do you mean intercooler rather than plenum?

I think its more meant to mean a cowling around the radiator to ensure the full flow from the intake goes through the rad?

Maybe...

HHHMMMM!!

Maybe.... indeed

The plot thickens....

Would a front mounted rad do just that?

jeez.. I must have been on something when I wrote this.

what james_h means .

plenum is just a fancy name for a box.

I need my boot for ..well being a boot.

it is not a drag toy.

I thought a plenum was the opposite of a vacuum.

Not really. A vacuum is a volume free of matter. A plenum is just a volume of above atmospheric pressure. The opposite of a vacum would be a volume which contains all matter.

As long as you're not planning on taking the air for the engine from under the car, I don't se aproblem then.
