i bought a metro turbo engined fitted in a mini off ebay last week i got it home started it and put it up on some axle stands and went through the gears but it didnt want non of it changed into secound and the engine just cut out so played with the regulator and i can go through the gears slow but slightest bit of power and it dyes

it also is tapping very badly and theres white smoke coming out the back

i bought it believing it was a metro turbo but its a converted metro 1275 so sort of shocked there also when the engine dies petrol comes out the side of the carb out of one of the ports

any help for this would be brilliant

Hard to tell from the poor sound quality on the video but, presumably from the missing headlight, its wasn't sold as being roadworthy anyway ???

First thing to do is a compression test IMO, then you might be able to consider if the smoke is head gasket or turbo seals or worse.

EDIT - just realised you asked the same question a few days ago, my answer was the same then.... :)

Is it standard rockers had the same rocker cover with high lift rockers and they were hiting the back of the cover. And if the fuel pressure is to high that will cause the petrol to come out of sides had that on my'n

Well, until you do a basic test on the fundamental condition of the engine (ie, a compression test) it is very hard to diagnose other problems.

Another basic test from the noise... what's the oil pressure reading ??? If it doesn't have a guage, fit one and see - the noise may be knackered bearings and/or oil pump.

ok i have a oil pressure gauge so will need to fit that

yeah they look like standard rocker,
when i adjusted the regulator down it was not getting enough petrol

i am lending a compression tester tomorow is it best to do it when engine is cold or after it has been running for 10 minutes

jsut been on turbo mini and i have noticed on the distrubitor shown it has a black box on the side mine doesnt have that just a normally 1275 metro dizzy

Not all Turbo Dizzy's had the the ignition module on the side of the distributer the early modles hd them remotely mounted.

The metro Turbo is basically a 1275 mayfair with a turbo slapped on the back, different pistons and different exhaust valves other than that the core engine is virtualy identical. So do not woory unduely about it being converted to take a turbo.

You need to get a fuel pressure gauge on there and set it to about 3.5psi. Adjusting this is not the way to set the amount of fuel the engine receives.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

when i first played with a turbo engine about 12 years ago someone told me to get it close to right watch the feed back to the fuel tank and adjust the regulator untill the return feed starts ''pulsing'' and this will get you into the area.

no idea if its right but mine ran ok :)

but as said get a pressure gauge, ebay are about 15 quid for them.

well today i got some tests done and after 6 seconds of cranking each cylinder read a max of 150 this was when the engine was cold

i also played with the regulator to try and get it to pulse so on off and i got it to trickle and then nothing then trickle but slightest amount was coming through.

will have to purchase a fuel pressure gauge to sort it out could this be the reason why engine stalls under accerlerations?

and why does petrol come out the side of my carb when it stalls? its the port that needs to be blanked only thing is when its blanked the engine does not turn over
