hey guys. ive just done a search on this but could find no info relevant to my question.
i have a safety devices 6 point bolt in roll cage that i am yet to fit. my question is concerning the spreader plates that are welded to the shell to spread the load of the feet of the cage once its fitted.
does anyone have any advice on welding in the plates inside the doorbins? ideally id like to keep the door bins as id like to retain the inertia reel seatbelt mountings, but that means access is a pain in the ass when it comes to welding. has anyone welded the plates to the outside of the shell or just cut off the lower part of the bin for access?
all help greatfully received. cheers. luke

Warwick.

bit strange having a cage and normals seats and belt...no lecture from me just consider the safety aspect of doing so.

erm, if your that set on keeping the bins your going to have to put up with it being very very ackward and the problem of (likely) to be a poor penitrated weld, you wont be able to point the welding into every joint, thats even if you can weld every edge. one im thinking about most id the edge that points into the car, maybe cut an access slot into the bin and fold the edge down then after welding the neccesary sections of the plates folding it back up and patching it back into place.

well i havent got standard seats. at the moment i have corbeau gtb recliners. but i want something similar to the cobra evolution pro for the drivers side with a harness but would like to retain the seat belt for the passenger side.
plus i'd always like to think i could revert back to standard if need be. but if theres no real way of welding them in properly with them in i guess they'll have to go!

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Have a look in 'Show us Your's'. There's a chap who's done a far amount of bodywork on his SPi cooper (including popping the exhaust out of the sides of the car.

He's lost his rear bins, but kept his inertia belts.
