so iv finally managed to get the clutch to slip ..

this was on 15 psi boost at avon ,fast change from 3rd to 4th .and i think generally ,a bit of slippage was taking place ,, it didnt seem to kick on each gearchange .the engine is a bit more powerfull due to it being run a bit richer ,around 13.3 to 1 afr ,still too lean but now hitting 106 mph ish terminal , using the clutch formula ,this equates to 186 lb /ft holding power ,so more torque than that then ,and equating the top speed in the terminal to bhp for vehicle weight , id say over 200 bhp ....now for a bit of a change in friction and pressure.

here are some pictures of the barbecue ..

the plate was actually carbon on the inner edge ..

heres my assistant cleaning back the faces with wet and dry ,

and heres the result ..

so two different springs ,and a higher coeff to try next .

really robert.....

what do you expect with a 180mm plate. lol

I reckon that the slip could be down to the pressure dropping off due to the worn plate, perhaps try a few mm taken from the lugs?

joe , could be true , plates 7.35mm uncompressed ,and the old plate from years ago is 7.45 so it has lost some ... dont remember what a new turbo plate thickness is ?

So what thickness springs did you have on there robert?

think it was a .075 and .083 ,paul its in the ct thread .interestingly i just tested 4 .075 springs ,and got varying pressures from 210 to 380 ,thats just the cone on its own ,so thickness is not the only variable .

I get the impression that the "fingers" vary in strength, hence some springs have a lot more movement at the thrust bearing.

I've used two 0.94" springs in mine.

Did you use the standard straps? Any sign of buckling?

stock straps , no sign of anything awry at all .

now tested at 188 hp and 184 lb/ft with no slip on the rr shootout .so with air flowing through the ic when racing the slipping point i estimate to be around 190 to 200 lb/ft .

Worth trying the 190mm rally plate?

bah,

I forgot your looking at different linings to use,

still the 190mm plate has an efective working diameter so should handle a bit more oompf asuming the same friction material.
