Who uses a filter before the pump? I have just taken the strainer out of my tank and took it off to hopefully solve my fuel problems(metro turbo) but I need something to replace it and am not sure if I can use a filter instead.

I do, and as the filter is before the pump they don't have to be pressure safe. And paper or replacemnt one will do, i use 2 to get the flow right. Edited by Miniwilliams on 6th Aug, 2009. Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

All efi pumps must use some form of pre-filter. But be very careful not to fit anything that will restrict flow. It will cause the pump to cavitate and make all sorts of weird noises, as well as interupting the fuel supply.

I use one of these filters before the pump on my sierra they are very large/free flowing and the tails that come with it are nice and big, 15mm OD, but others are available if that is too big.

The old Porches used a big pre-filter. You can get them on ebay, although think they had threaded fittings.
