some random questions i have not been able to find answers for any help appreciated :)

1) pistons, id like to stay std 1275 bore but as far as i can make out the only 'turbo' piston in std bore is the original metro ones - anyone know of any others? or run boost with std spi cooper pistons?

2) gearbox, im considering a straight cut gear set now to try and future proof as much as possible the evolution gear set from minispares gets good press (especialy by mr Benross) but it doesnt replace first gear iirc doesnt that make first gear the next weakest gear?

3) what is the wear like on the straight cut gears, i plan on using the mini as much as possible and could be racking up 5k+ per year?

4) mot and a new engine, i will have to mot this mini with a brand new engine with maybe 10miles on the clock if that would it make getting good emissions difficult?

5) do u recon i can get an mot with only 1 seat? *happy*

i will have more to come :) thanks in advance for any help

cheers Brett*happy*

Yes, it is only an advisory without a passenger seat if the seat belt is still fitted

Mind you I would think it would be a fail if it was the drivers seat that was missing *hehe!*

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Straight cut drops will save your transfer caseing. If your engine is from a car pre 1983 then emissions test are waved.

If you're racking up 5000miles a year SSC drops is a BAD idea.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Pre 1983, the emmisions level (can't remeber whether CO2 or hydrocarbons) is uped from 3.5% to 4.5%

If you car was manufactured before 1st August 1975 then it's a visual inspection only.

is this just due to the sound they make? i can live with that, its the wear rate im worried about

i seem to remember the emissions limit used to be 3.5%CO and 1200ppm its an 1986 car im not going to mention the engine swap lol

cheers the gaps are getting filled in:)

I also want to know why sc drops is a bad idea. i do 11k a year with them and they are coming upto 20k in the engine i think.

you can get custom pistons made in any shape or form you want. Std metro turbo pistons while heavy, are very very strong.

2) gearbox, im considering a straight cut gear set now to try and future proof as much as possible the evolution gear set from minispares gets good press (especialy by mr Benross) but it doesnt replace first gear iirc doesnt that make first gear the next weakest gear?

lower gears tend to have less strain put on them as the car appears lighter due to gearing etc. Plus as others said, its SC anyway.

3) what is the wear like on the straight cut gears, i plan on using the mini as much as possible and could be racking up 5k+ per year?

I ran mine for about 30k per year when I drove my car....only issue I had was teeth breaking off occasionally lol

4) mot and a new engine, i will have to mot this mini with a brand new engine with maybe 10miles on the clock if that would it make getting good emissions difficult?

If the carb is setup right, and the cam is mild, emissions shouldnt be overly difficult.

MOT only check whats there. No problem with one seat, as long as its secure, and has a seat belt.

202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
