I'm trying to find someone that has an 850cc head that I can buy/have that I can put right onto my car, tighten everything down and drive the mini. If anyone has one, please let me know, I can pay. I'm in the United States though, so you have to be willing to ship(which I'll pay for).

I reckon you should shove a k100 head on that girl. Think thats what the first bmw twinnie head was put on iirc. :) |

if you specifically need an 850 head, i cant really hep, but if your just desperate for something to bolt on and go, then i have many std 998 engines knocking about i can steal a head off for you

What mod's would I have to do to the 998 head? As long as I can get the compression right a 998 head would be fine, but I imagine with the amount of machining needed I would need to skim as much as to the oil gallery which would have to be brazed up and then re drilled? |

Oh, and a 12A1456 head is what was on it, which is the original casting number. It's for the 85H motor, not the low compression motor.

As far as I can remember, 12A1456 is just a standard small bore head, used on 850's and 998's.

You may be right, I haven't had much time to research it yet, but I think I may have read that somewhere in the past day or so... Anyone got one that doesn't need rebuilding?

surely if you are willing to import a lump of cast iron it would be worth throwing that at the head you already have to get it to a better spec? just my 2c |

I'd be spending $700 just to rebuild it to stock, and I can get Keith Calver to do one up st 3 with larger combustion chambers for $1000(This is U.S. dollars) but I need the mini back on the road right now, as she's my daily.

for a head, I can get it for about 110 pounds, which is roughly $180 U.S. |

Nothing that's bolt on really. You'll need some skimming etc. on the alternatives. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Then I think I'll stick to basic 850cc right now. Anybody got either 12A1456 or 2A628 that is ready to go? And willing to ship to the U.S?

I comfirmed chamber sizes with Keith Calver, and he thinks a 998 head would be just fine. With that in mind, does anyone have either the 850cc heads that I mentioned, or any 998 heads that are in good nick that I can have/buy off them? That CAM4160 head would be nice, if anyone has one in good condition. Let me know what you've got, I do need to be able to just drop it on though(fit and drive-esque head if you catch my meaning). I can do a skim if need be, or a valve grind, but the seats and valves need to be in good condition. If it will take a 998 head, tehn this should fit and offer a bit more performance...
