I currently use a standard 4.5 psi actuator (albeit a new one when the turbo technics re-built my T3) on my mini, and the electronic solenoid of the metro turbo to open it up to 14.7psi.

My question is if I was to get say an 8psi actuator, and used a bleed valve with that, how much extra boost could I gain? Is there a rule of thumb?

I want to run around 17psi and I?m aware that you can buy fully adjustable actuators, but I want to retain my 2 stage boost set up with the electronic solenoid and with fine tuning done with a bleed valve.

Any thoughts?

Cheers, Choppo.*tongue*

i though the standard boost solenoid only opened the boost up to 7psi not 1 bar, if it is then summats fooked i think.

no need to swap actuators if your using a bleed valve i dont think, im still on the standard one and have used my bleed valve to open it up to 10 psi

Nothing wrong with my set up, the only reason that the metro turbo runs 7psi is that the solenoid 'flutters' open and closed to bleed off 7psi. This was controlled by the ECU on the metro turbo. If you open the solenoid and electronically with a switch it will just stay open until you turn the switch off, it vents to atmosphere and it boost's to 1 bar.

I'm can run it at 10 psi if I want to as I have a bleed valve also, but I want to go ABOVE a bar of boost.

So my question is, can I get an updated actuator e.g. 8 or 9 psi, and if I use a bleed valve with this will it allow me to run over a bar? I want to retain my two stage boost which is why I don't want to fit a adjustable actuator.

*happy*

pretty sure you shouldn't need to change the actuator though, i opened my bleed valve up a bit too much the other day while i was adjusting it and saw 17psi......wont be doing that again :)

absolutely no idea on all the 2 stage boost stuff though sorry dude.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

you could use two if the flow through one isnt enough? The internal bore of the solenoid is effecting the limit of how far it will boost. if you just have the pipe from the actuator open it would boost more than a bar. if it wont then its the actuator thats ristricting the boost *smiley*

aslong as the bleed valve is free'er flowing than the pipe coming out the actuator then yes id say the actuator is the limiting factor.
i would of thought you could see 20+ out of a std actuator with a bleed valve setup though.

hope that makes sense! *happy*
