Im testing some new indexing washers at MITP (as long as the weather holds up).
I have them fitted to my car now and they line the plugs up perfectly.
Made from copper they come as plug sets 1x small, 1x medium, 1x large, obviously you will want 4 plug sets and cost you £9 plus postage @ 50p
The small will rotate the plug 35 degrees
The medium 90 degrees
The large 180 degrees.
On a 2 valve Mini engine the open side of the electrode should face the the exhaust valve.

Any interest? I should be able to bring some with me to MITP

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Are you at that point with your engine Paul? Optimising the plug nose position in an effort to improve performance, however small?

Cool!!! :)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yes, nothing more can be gained.
If plug gap matters though, surely its position must also

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Honey, yes but the thickest ones are only around 1mm thick so over the area of the spark plugs diameter, not enough to worry about.

NICE HAHA

Spark plug indexing is the process of rotating the open face of the plug (i.e. opposite the ground electrode) to face a certain direction within the combustion chamber.
This is to enhance combustion efficiency.
For multi valve engines, indexing the plugs so that the open face points towards the inlet valves usually works best. For 2 valve engines, pointing towards the exhaust valve usually works best.
These are copper washers made to the correct thicknesses to give 35, 90 and 180 degree rotations. These kits are supplied as 3 different sizes per plug, so there are 12 washers in total.
These can be removed from your plugs and reused on a new set when replacing so last for years.
Full fitting instructions are supplied
