I was wondering what the cheapest weld in cage is, because I looked on the safety devices website and they quote 495 for a full mini weld in cage, but I was staggered to see what I assume is the same thing in the minisport catalogue for 699. Anyone know the best place to buy one?
Thanks

word of warning sam, it can take quite a few hours (infact provbably days) to put either a fully welded cage in or a bolt-in multipoint

i had a bolt in multipoint, and was fortunate to agree a fixed price (?500) with the guy that put mine in and that was for a fair bit of other fab work included. Afterwards he said he would charge a ?1000 just for the cage fitting!

not sure how much you'd get charged for installation of a full weld-in cage, although the chap that put my cage in said the fully welded in-type are easier to install as its all individual bars.

not sure on the prices, i got a quote from safety devices for the bolt in multipoint cage and it was more expensive than minisport!!

for a full multipointed cage your looking at well over a grand, and more like 2k, but it all depends how far you want to go, and what it's going to be made of. T45 is expensive on it's own. I think I paid aroun 800 on metal for my cage.

there is also a cross in the roof, which cannot be seen in these photos

Jim was your cage a kit or was it made up from tube? Also how did you make your remote gear change mount?

the cage was part kit, only the mai hoop, and front legs came, (as thats all we asked for) the rest of the kit was t45 which we got locally The cage kit was from Fabricage.
Which aspect of the gear change mount? simply built a tower, as pretty as you like, and use to Uj's on the gear change shaft

Jimster,

Are there rules that require you to have that much pipe work and all those gussets for drag racing or were you just staying on the safe side? I'm just curious how the rules differ in the UK as opposed to NHRA rules over here in the US.

Very, very nice job also!

no rules for drag racing, but sometime in the future I think I would like to race my mini in the mightly mini's extreame series, long way off at the moment, no cash. At the moment the car is just used for drag racing and track days, the car looks heavy, but the cage is very thin, and gets is strength from the triangulation. I also wanted the car very stiff, and that has been achived.

you have to cut the holes yourself, then use a swaging tool to form the plunged holes

you can get the swaging tool from frosts for about ?35 i think, they come in a few sizes so pick a size your happy other wise it could get pricey buying a load ot swaging tools

you might be able to get cheaper ones elsewhere mind

jims sheet metal work was done by

The holes are cut and then swaged to give them strength and a coooool look.

thats right, Endaf from owensfabrication was the boss when to putting the cage into my car, I was the apprentice, getting the food, beer, and cutting the metal, I didn't do any of the welding to the cage, as it has to be done by a pro to get is MSA ect.

it could be either, but it could be worth checking, as there would be a huge difference in price

What is the difference between the two types of steel? Also does the cage come with the steering column brace or is that a custom fitting?

I'm not sure what comes with the miglia kit, as I did not get the full kit. T45 is stronger, so is often thinner tube is used, so is lighter, but more more expensive, it's also harder to bend
