hey, im building a 998cc turbo engine and i'm doing a fair bit to it but every where i read everyone is turboing 1275cc engines, i know im goin to have less power due to the lower capacity but how much less? I am lightening the flywheel, i have high lift roccers, im getting a metro turbo carbie, performance ground cam shaft (more exhaust gass's), pritty much strait through exhaust, 12G295 head wich has been refurbish'd with double cam springs, all new bearings, pistons and ground crank, stronger water n oil pump......and the turbo with the intercooler, anyone done the same aort of mod's or any idea of what sort of power i'll get?? i just hope i end up with atleast a little bit more power than a standard 1275engine. thanks 998 turbo |

I think you have been watching too many videos of somthing bikes go round corners ok if the rider knows what he or she is doing.

Turbodave has run 13.801 and myself 13.797@104mph. Both those times were on Yokohama 032R's. Put a pair of slicks on and you would knock around 3 to 4 tenths of those times, taking them down to circa 13.4/5 secs.

I can't imagine that ther is much differance in reliability. The week points for the 998 are no availibility of forged pistons and the smaller crank journals.

Hi this is my first post, new to the whole Turbo thing even tho i've had my mini for over 2 years. Just decided to have a look down the turbo route as i want some thing a bit quicker, love my mini and its cheaper than buying another car like a Lancia Delta HF or Renault 5 gt turbo due to insurance.

Thats pritty cool, i didnt think anyone would be interested in 998cc engines when it comes to turbo's. And for iety, from what i'v found out, you cant cut corners, if you wont a reliable engine you have to have a propperly set up engine. Nitriting the crank and getting all new bearings and seals in the bottom end is worth the work, good oil pick up line, strong water and oil pump, dual timing chain, reground cam shaft........these are some of the mods im doin and i'v been told that it should give me a strong reliable engine but who know's untill i'v built the engine, lol, kinda scary 2 think about! 998 turbo |
