was planning on fitting a 3.44 FD to my box when it goes back together but just wondering what the best one to fit would be for the 1/4 mile? or is it a how longs a piece of string type question?

aiming for a rev limit of 7500 with around 170+ banana's hopefully.

I use a 3.44, seems about right for 10" wheels

On the hillclimber I run 4.1 on 13s. This means I am (by total fluke) doing 7000 rpm over the line in 4th.

I don't know whether a taller diff would be better but it makes sense to me that the lowest possible to use all the revs in top gear will be best.

For you spec, I'd be looking at what someone like robert is using, then compensate for your wheel size.

very low by the sounds of it! I'm on a 3.44 with tens as well, and I can see 100mph in 3rd at a fraction under 8000rpm.....

Well i was going over the line at 94mph on the limiter 7k in forth with a 3.7 and 12" wheels

I think wil is right with the revs in top gear but wouldnt you be better with a 2.9 then in theory you will be going over the line in third flat out and had one less gearchange to do.

I got a question for you lot... what sort of rpms do your turbos bhp peak at?

I've got a short stroke n/a motor, and that will happily buzz up to 9,000 rpm, but my quickest 1/4 miles happen when i change just after 6500rpm. The extra rpms are only really useful on a circuit i guess...

I was running a 3.9 this weekend, thinking i might go down to a 3.7 now tho

I found a 3.44 too short

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

my 3.9 looks like it helps to the 60ft but aqfter the 8th the peak power starts to drop away and then i hit the limiter. Tell tale on the ECU said i hit 8900 at the weekend *happy* seemed to love it!

i've got a 3.1 i fancy trying, but then think the 3.9 will be better for the hillclimbing for next year

well i don't expect to be hitting the same times/numbers as nic so i'm tempted to stick with a 3.44 or maybe even a 3.6.

My cars full road weight at the minute + me so i think a 3.1 might be a bit long untill we've lost some more weight.

well the old motor had 163 banana's but i never got it down the strip.

when its back together in a few weeks it'll be the same engine but with a new turbo so should throw out a few more nana's as i plan on seeing what these 21253's will take.
