Avon as it's on my birthday and the Pod is a pain to get to from Bristol.

Well organisation etc. is much better at Santa Pod. The cars go up the strip at much more regular intervals. Better seating too. However, we were only at the Pod for about 4 hours compared to a few days at Avon so I can't judge properly

Bugger my reply didnt appear.

Avon by far superior, it has much more of an atmosphere, you can watch the cars whilst queuing, its not such an awkward site to walk around, and there is no dodgy disco at Pod, instead some reserved clean shed

This weekend was the first time that I have experienced good organisation at Pod - every other time I've been for any event, its been piss poor - major delays on the track, opening late in the morning etc....

Every time I've been to Shakespeare County Raceway (again, for any event), they've been far more efficient, with far less delays.

Out of the 2, gotta say I prefer Shakespeare (Avon).

I have to say...the last 3 years of the pod...this was the best one. The weather helped in all fairness though. Alas...never been to Avon, next year perhaps.

Its a right bugger from Dorset, £160 quid in petrol it cost us for the round trip. Then again it was a big american van, towing with a 30 foot trailer and 2 minis on. so probably not that bad.

Annoyingly I haven't made it up to avon park yet, theres always something else going on that weekend stopping me from going.

I didn't have a car down with me this year so MITP was better for me as there was more to see when not watching the racing. on the other hand, avon is better when your driving as you can watch what is going on when waiting

Somewhere around Swindon

this was my first time to MiTP and i cant say i was that impressed from a spectators point of view, we took a wad to blow on panels for lisa'a mini and could not get anything, where were all the traders? there used to be twice as many at cornbury park i have also never seen pod that dead good for the people going up the strip as they had plenty of runs

I think Avon Park is a better. Perhaps the 2 nights on the pop and 2 days on the strip did it for me.

Although my perception could be skewed cos I had bit of a drunken strop at MITP which took me about an hour and half to snap out of.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Although we percieve the two events as a Mini drag race meeting, they are as different as chalk and cheese.

Avon is a pure race meeting with minimal traders, whereas MITP a Mini show with a RWYB added on.

Avon has structured race classes and trophies, so has an element of real competion about it. MITP is more about the individuals doing their own thing.

True what Wolfie says about the traders, but they may have decided to ditch MITP in favour of IMM.

I have been to both for the last three years and I can't really say that I prefer one over the other.

Avon probably is better from a performance Mini point of view, but then I enjoyed being able to do the Saturday night at MITP and still sleep in my own bed, being only 15 mins drive away.

I think someone should nudge Mini Magazine and say "Come on, make MITP a Mini race meeting with classes". We could find some trophies.

Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."
Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

Working up the BHP ladder.

I like that idea Paul. I find MITP a good fun weekend, but the racing does need to be categorised to make thing really interesting. It could be turned into a mini 'show' with all the normal trade stands and concours classes with a race theme bolted on. I know some of the other shows (non-mini) have had competitions which involve a mixture of Road legality, car cosmetics, and performance with points for each part.

Paul, MITP last year had classes and trophies - this year it wasn't organised by Mini Mag, it was a new organiser hence the lack of classes.

It was rubbish for trade stands ,i hope it was the fact that the traders opted to do the imm and not mitp this year. I know some traders really dont like the pod , and would prefer a return to Cornbury Park.
As a spectator its nice to have something to watch , but i'm not sure it needs classes , its not a race meeting its a mini show .

There was no class's at mitp so no chance of silverware. I'm a trouphy hunter so I prefere avon. Also the dodgy disco has more go, and you can shag the staff

Avon, no comparison.
If I were at Avon and broke my car, as I did at Pod, Id have fixed it to run again. Couldnt be bothered at Pod so parked it

Paul

I feel that way - I seem to have much more enthusiasm at Avon - and due to the extra room and friendlier nature of the place I find it a much more comfortable place to work on the car.
