got a set of the above with the block which i got machined by a well known company in the circle, anyway they are the heavy duty type that they use on all there engines, they have the oil groove on both shells as well but they have the locating tangs on the side on all of them and three of them are ment to have them in the middle for the caps, are they the wrong ones or do you just remove them (the tangs)? it says on the box for 970, 1098, 1275

You could just slot the cap to fit the tang.

There are not many A Plus bearings around these days.

Do not remove the tangs.

Carefully file a new slot in the caps as Minimole said.

The change was part way through A plus, early A plus blocks still use the grooved shells top and bottom with the side tangs.

You just have to match the bearing shells (position of tang) to the way your block is machined.

There have been quite a few threads on the merits and disadvantages of the later design.
