What else do you do when you take a woman somewhere for a few days? Saddle up.

I went the same time of year a few years back, will definitely go again. If your up for doing ll the touristy things then you'll have no problems filling 6/7 days.

Empire state building was amazing (top of the list), Central park has to be done, ground zero, Broadway, could try and get tickets to the basket ball(we tried this but weren't playing whilst we were there), endless amounts of shops, time square.

New years eve was shite, make sure you get in a bar early and don't leave! They stopped letting in at 11.00 and everyone else was basically kept in penns long the road block by block then finally realeased to go home at 12.15, was a big let down in that respect!!

Fuck all that, come to teignmouth! Whole town in fancy dress, a great night out and was once one of the top five places to be on new years eve in something like FHM. Its a small claim to fame anyways!

As for new york fook knows! a drink/cinema/meal normally gets me laid. Taking them to new york seems slightly extravagant!

EDIT: TIT. I need to turn my computer off before going out.

You can't go wrong as all the main attractions are fairly close to each other and within walking distance. If you start at central park you can walk down to times square, then empire state/central station then onto ground zero (just don't take lots of photos and gawk there like we did as they get upset!) then catch the ferry to Ellis or libert island. We did that in one day which was tight so for you it's easy. But as someone has said women stick to the shop windows and slow you down!

My girlfriends dad lives in New Jersey about 40 miles away so I've been a few times now, obviously there is loads to see, I'd also agree that the Empire State is a must, as above there are lots of other places to go, Chinatown and Little Italy are also worth a look round and a coffee in one of the Italian cafes, also make sure you go out for breakfast at least once as this is great. Wall Street and the NY stock exchange are also well worth a walk past. The south street seaport is also worth a look.

been there twice, love the place although i tended to spend most of my time shopping *tongue*

few places good nights out is this place....bit like a cheers bars really busy famous for its burgers.
http://nymag.com/listings/bar/corner_bistro/

we asked for a double vodka lime and soda, the drink ended up with crushed ice in a glass vodka to the top, splash of soda and a lime on the side haha *Rofl!*

also just down the road is this awesome restaurant the food here is amazing and when done you can go back to the bistro and finish of the evening :)

http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/place/

these were the only gems i found while out there. tavern on the greens pretty nice though tad expensive never again!

personally i went on top of the rock rather than empire state building as well you can see the empire state from it and better views if its nice. walking across the Brooklyn bridge is a must really fun although it'll take you longer than you think (mind the cyclists here there on a mission to kill walkers if your on there allocated riding side). central park is good and the zoo....however i've only ever been in winter so its limited then with snow and rain and minus temps.

dont also do what i did and forget to carry enough with you to tip the cab driver then you get dropped off. i carried mostly TC at the time and could only tip him 8-10% of the bill he went crazy at me. greedy bastards

edit:
i have a time out guide somewhere (if not lost) i could post to you if you want to borrow.....let me know and i'll have a look for it.

also avoid Bubba Gump restaurant (way to commercial queue is ridiculous) as such is a big let down food is so bland i wouldn't feed it to my dog.

and sorry for essay :) have fun

New York is Fantastic...

Empire State must be done especially if it is a clear day. Takes well over an hour to reach top with various security checks and lifts.

Central Park is a great open space for a nice long walka nd to people watch.

Near Central park is the national History museum, the one from "night in the museum", just down fron the museum in the Dekota building whre John Lennon was shot/lived.

The hard rock cafe is cool, great value for money food and in Time square.

Best reccomendation is get to the comedy store in Greenwhich village, you have to book in advance, a world class comedy club, cool bars around that area too.

Have a great time.

Glasgow

we went a couple of days before christmas a couple of years ago.

spent 3 nights just up from Time Square. While it might not be everyones great plan we went on the open top bus tour, took in a couple of broadway shows, saw ground zero, took a helicopter ride at dusk, went up the Empire State Building, went to the Guggenheim Museum, ice skating in central park, ate at Ramsay's place and probably the highlight for the wife was a visit to Tiffany's (I think I'm still paying for that!)

I live 2 hours from NYC, unfortunately I hate the dirty stinking place!! it seems that NYC is a love it or hate it thing but like most big cities its a must visit..

If anyone plans to do a trip and is driving there the thing to do is drive to Liberty park which is in New Jersey and real easy to get to from I95 with no traffic problems, Its just across the water from Manhatten (great photo op). Park your car there, its cheap (well, NYC cheap) You can jump on the Statue of liberty ferry, visit that then carry on the same ferry ticket to Manhatten. Spend a day or 2 exploring the city then return to Liberty park using the ferry from the ferry terminal near the world financial center... works a treat..

Having said that, the place I love is Chicago, its clean, I feel safe walking the streets and the blues and jazz bars are wonderful..

We did something similar when we went Tel, parked the car in Jersey City then caught the water taxi across to downtown/financial centre.

Without sounding snobby, I have the money to treat her, so why not? And I'm fed up of staying in the UK, doing the same shit every year!
