I'm connecting all the engine (1275 n/a) up at the minute, and i seem to have some spare wires......

where do these connect to?

white/black single wire with a terminal connector

yellow/white sigle wire with a spade connector

2 x white/black cables on a spade connector

Yellow/white & pink(i think)/white on a terminal connector

Next question, do you connect the earth cable to the wok, and the exhaust manifold?

Final question- electronic ignition, what way round do all the wires go?

Are these (first four lines) near the dizzy ???

Earth cable between clutch slave cylider mounting stud (ie, body) to WOK (engine). Exhaust manifold would just be another part of the engine....

Electronic ignition - which type, two wire or three wire plug ???

BTW, from the colours earlier (first four lines), it sounds like the loom is for ballast ignition, not electronic.

yes they are near the dizzy.

its a 2 wire plug for the electronic ignition. The car never had it to start with, its from the metro. the 2 wires from the plug go to the ignition coil dont they?

thanks :)

Yes, the two wires from the electronic dizzy go to the coil - if it's the correct short "loom" from the Metro they can only go on the coil one way (one connector is male, the other female) BUT, you must use the correct coil to match the electronic dizzy.

It's the other wires you have to be carefull with if the main loom is from a ballast coil equiped Mini, ie, the pink/white (possibly full pink) and yellow/white must be ignored at all costs - they are specifically for ballast ignition only.

Can you confirm the vintage of the loom you are working with and whether there is a plain white all by itself ???

the loom is the original 1986 lom so it would have been ballast ignition, i can't see a plain white wire.....

Early to mid eighties when they changed to ballast ignition (the pink or pink/white wire is the giveaway) they actually used the original loom and put the ballast feed and feedback wire to the solenoid in a seperate small loom (actually just a small sleeve) and left the original white 12V ignition wire taped up into the loom at the front to hide it.

If your pink (or pink/white) are in a seperate sleeve, you should be able to find the white in the main loom near the dizzy.

If not, you need a new 12V feed to the electronic dizzy.

Do NOT use the pink (pink/white) wire, the actual wire is the ballast resistor.

Equally, the yellow/white is the ballast bypass from the extra tag on the solenoid to bypass the ballast resistor when starting, this must NOT be used with electronic ignition.
