Evening people.

I bought a Focus C-Max from a ford dealership last Saturday.

Just had to get recovered on my breakdown cover as the alternator has gone.

Naturally I'll be on the phone to the garage first thing in the morning. The warranty scheme is only bog standard and doesn't cover the alternator.

As the car was purchased on finance, where does this leave me if they refuse to fix it?

I'll be working away from home as of 4am tommorrow morning, would it be unreasonable to expect them to collect from my house, and repair it?

Dave

I believe you are covered by consumer rights as the car has had a significant failure just after you bought it. Check with the CAB to be certain.

Cheers for the fast reply.

I'll ring the Advise Bureau first thing, before i ring the garage.

Looking on the CAB website, it looks like I'll be covered.

Thanks

how old is the car? as far as im aware you will have no comeback unless you have proof that they knew the altenator was faulty (unlikely as it was used for week).

Hopefully its a new'ish car and its still in warrenty, which should cover it.

If its out of warenty, then you may have to take it on the chin, or it depends how friendly you are with the garage, they may pay the labour to keep you sweet!

Not a warranty as such. My understanding is if a car seller is a dealer the car has to be fit for purpose, so it may be a pile of crap but if a failure stops the car running/driving they have to fix it or offer you a refund.

I bought a car recently and the dealer tried it on by writing "no guarantee" all over the invoice, but I politely reminded him of the sale of goods act.

yep, its true, the old "sold as seen" on the receipt is actually illegal now, as it tries to devoid you of your statutory rights

im going through the process now with the dealer who sold me my boat engine, its gearbox is shafted and its never been able to select reverse gear, even a year down the line (the boats been out of water under resto) he is having to stand too

If you have not recieved reasonabnle service from your purchase you can demand a full fefund upto 28 days afer purchase then you have the 3 month thing aswell so start hitting them over the head with the facts of the matter.

Also, and this is a good thing, seeing as it was purchased on finance the car belongs to the finance company, so someone correct me if I am wrong you are entitled to tell the finance company you are stopping payments due to terminal failure rendering the vehicle unservice able after an unexcepable period of time and the dealers refusal to adress the issue correctly. The issue then becomes one between the finance company and the dealer.

Well,

So far so good. Spoke to the dealer this morning. The cars still under warranty, they will look to transport it tommorrow and should have it done by the end of the week

Have to admit i was surprised by how easy it went. No argument or nothing.

We'll see if it does get sorted out so easily.....
