Does anybody know what thread the studs/bolts are on MK 3 onwards door hinges - the stud that goes through the hinge panel?

I want to run a dye (probably wrong spelling) down mine to clean the threads up as they are a touch rusty/dirty.

Thanks

I'm 99% certain they are 1/4" UNF (far too small, that's why they shear off so easily).

You'll have trouble getting a die in there as the two are so close, you really need a dienut.

Thanks Rod. Time to see how small my tap & die set goes...

Is there a thread/guide anywhere with common nut/bolt/stud/thread sizes? I'm sure I've seen one somewhere but can't for the life of me remmeber where it was.

Would probably save me asking lots of this type of question....

If you dont have a dienut, put a jubilee clip around a normal split die to get purchase on it

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

The common one is called "Zeus", fits in your overall top pocket, cost about £5 - engineers love to walk around with them but, TBH it's very dated and you'll find everything that's in it (and more) just by Googleing the appropriate phrase (such as "UNF thread table" or whatever you want) on the web.....

I was thinking more mini specific rather than a generic guide to sizes etc

Is this the Zeus one?

If so, it's here in a 16MB PDF:
