Just looking at a potential replacement car for the missus. In the advert it states that it has been a CAT D write off, due to a flood.

The repair is a complete new interior, which looks spotless. the car has only done 42K and is about £1K cheaper then a simular age/milage vehicle.

Should there be anything in particular i am checking for? specific documents? should i phone the insurance just to check that their will be no issues insuring it?

or should i run as fast as i can?

Go and look at it, make sure the repairs are good and there arent any leaves etc in dodgy places.

The main thing you've got to contend with now are electrical gremlins, and rust (obviously not straight away)

Check it on the register, it might not come up, we have had a few like this. Also (being cat D this shouldnt be necessary) ring DVLA and find out if it needs a VIC.

Use the fact its a Cat D to screw some more money of the price. Be VERY picky!

I'd have no bother buying a CAT D and running it, just make sure it is what it says it is.

Personally I would be looking at the vehicles identity very closely. Possibly worth an AA/RAC vehicle inspection to verify that it has the correct ID and has been repaired properly.

Is it an individual selling it or a firm who sells repaired cars as it's main business?

Its an individual who bought it after it was repaired a year ago, the body work looks spot on and he states he washes it every week lol

It's a MG ZR 1.4 for what its worth, on a 54 plate, priced at £2600.

the outcome of tomorrows redundecy meeting decides he current cars fete lol

I bought a Cat D after it had been flooded. I checked everything electical and only founf that the electrial seat wasn't working correctly.

I had to have a VIC, as I bought it through a dealer who got it from an insurance company.

Done 30k miles in it now over 2 years no problems.

It was over 3k below book price at 8.5k though.

Depends on the car - anything with lots of electrics I wouldnt touch!

Somthing more basic I'd do as jim says *happy*

I cant think of any electrics on the floor - so you might be ok :)

Think the only connections that run on the floor are the SRS connections to the seat belt pre tensioners.
Depends on how high the water went.
Ive had these with just a normal water leak where things were floating on the floor.

was it a salt water or freshwater flood?

as the guys say, electrics may be the issue in the long run. I'd personally have no issued with having one but make sure you are getting a deal on it - what would the car be worth top book at the moment?

It's basicaly a Rover 25, the flood damage was probably just from the crap seals and build quality....

Make sure its actually been writen off for flood damage, dont just take the guys word.
Id does sound better flood damage rather than its had a complete boot floor????? or chassis leg???

Like others say tho, if it its all working ok, and its nice that its been 12 months since repair rather than 12 days, at least any issues should have allready been resolved.

Worth a punt at the right money! But make sure you screw the guy as low as you can. The fact that it is recorded means it will never go away. It will always be worth less than book. I am just thinking of t from a resale point of view in the future. Being an MG there will be plenty of things go wrong anyway *smiley*

"Is the flood damage from when the head gasket blew?"

I chuffing hate it when people immediately mention the head gasket as soon as anything about a k series is mentioned
