Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Now i'm thinking of selling the mig as i have been for a while but guessed that selling it in its current state (i.e. up and running) is a better proposition than selling it as a rolling shell.

I dont get time to use it as much as i want to, or really make the most of it like it should. Now i have the clubby that i can use on the road it makes more sense for me to have that.

After the weekend i did what i wanted and got some good times for the setup.

So rough spec:

Vickers built Miglia shell/cage etc
carbon/glass front/bonnet/boot arches
challenge spec engine, omega forged pistons etc etc
emerald ecu
dog box
T25 turbo - nearly new
custom stainless exhaust
trax-spax shocks and fully modded mig suspension
corbeau rev carbon backed seat (£1200 new!)
mb 10x7 splits with virtually new 032's
silicon hoses etc etc
tax exempt
loads and loads of custom bits of bodywork
Rear ARB etc
AEM wideband
Acewell dash
KAD 4 pots

Bad bits:
small hole in door skin. only bit of rust on the car!
wants a good touch up with paint.
wiring wants tidying
intercooler pipework/mounting wants tidying although all good silicon hoses etc
Currently using rubber fuel lines run through the car. work fine but want clipping, running correctly.

I know its only worth what someone will pay but i just wanted to get an idea of what people in the know would value it at.

Also is the US market any better nowadays? worth trying there?

it really does just want someone to give it some time and a little bit of money to make it into the ultimate track weapon, it only needs tickling in the right places or is prefectly useable as it is.

cheers!

The US market is really bad for classic cars currently. Classic Mini supply is high and demand is low. Also, unless the car is more than 25 years old (or it's been artificially aged with vintage vin tags and papers before it leaves the UK), it's not registerable here.

I think the problem is understanding exactly what the car is built for; is it a road car, a race car, a track-day car?

If someone wants it for a road car it's not really ideal as it only has one seat. It's not really a race car anymore as it dosen't comply with any series regs. SO I guess it's a track-day car. I'm not sure how big this market is, thus the price will be limited.

You may wel get more money by splitting the whole thing, but this is more effort and risks leaving you with some bits/

I agree with Wil, you will most likely see the most cash selling it in bits.

I would also say in bits would be most profitable too.

What's a mig shell worth these days?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Iain sells another car shock!! lol

Ideally, i would agree with will and either make it a race car or road car. In its current spec i think it floats in between the two, and would put a lot of the big spenders off

After thinking long and hard and adding up the numbers, your right about the breaking it bit, provided i get decent money for the 2 main lumps, one being the engine etc, the other being the shell.

So the shell to start:
New in 2000, and built by Peter Vickers.
Full weld in miglia cage, harness bar you name it its got it. Linked into the front subframe mounts and back shock mounts. Tied in nicely down the A pillars etc etc
Full weld in Rear anti-roll bar
No rust
Would come with carbon front end, bonnet and boot lid.
Custom alloy boot floor, not just a sheet but properly formed and reinforced
Custom pedal box, remote mounted reservoirs, seperate cylinders etc
Custom alloy dash, the same as a carbon miglia one but in alloy.
full width bulkhead box
Seam welded and strengthened around all suspension points.
Full braided brake lines front to rear included and mounted bias valve for the rears
No rust other than surface rust on the bottom. It just wants a scrub and paint but only being the underside can be done by hand.
Custom mount for a steering column etc.
I would say to build a shell like this you would be looking at around 10k.

I would like 4000 for it bare. Seem sensible? Its as near to a full new motorsport shell as you will get and immaculately prepared. All perfect welds etc.

The engine:

1293 with forged 15cc omega pistons
lightened rods and crank
ultralight flywheel, paddle plate and grey diapraghm. Never slipped once which has suprised me.
Full Dog box
4 pin diff and semi helical crownwheel and pinion
Fully worked turbo challenge head.
Phase 2 cam and piper vernier timing gear
1.5 roller rockers and modded rocker cover for breathers
Mirage manifolds and T25 turbo with virtually new core, all braided hoses etc.
Full knife edged Hiff44 carb on a metro turbo manifold, matched to the mirage manifold.
Nic's custom plenum.
Forge actuator and dump valve.
Comes with Emerald ECU fully mapped for the engine with MAP sensor, TPS (fitted to the HIFF44), water and air temp sensors and sagem coil pack. Ready to go although it will need some plugs putting back on as i'll have to cut it to get it out. It is all colour coded though so will jsut be a case of matching everything up.
Toothed belt drive water pump and bottom pulley.
Crank sensor and trigger wheel etc.
I think thats the majority of it. But other than an intercooler and radiator its ready to go. (those will be sold seperately as they are custom and not suited to all cars.)
Brise Starter motor

I'm thinking 3000 for this for what is a ready to go package, awesome ecu etc.

Its a proven engine and drives superb as was seen at POD

Then there is a long list of other parts from modified subframes, traxspax dampers, seats, harness, rad/intercooler setups, dashs, fire extinguisher system, MB split rims. plastic windows, carbon bits, KAD brakes, custom hubs, alloy fuel tank, full braided fuel setup (brand new with brand new high flow pump - all JIC), high spec fuse/relay box etc etc.

Would appreciate any input, good or bad.

To buy it complete is a far cheaper option but i can see why it would probably be easier to sell bits and bobs off.

Cant really see me being left with much as everything is custom to a degree and in superb condition bar some paint so everything will have a home. Not the same as breaking a standard one i guess where you get left with bits of trim etc.
Would be breaking over the next 3-4 weeks.

The car was built from a 1969 donor as well with a brand new shell (so legal reshell) and as such comes with a 1969 logbook and plates

Theres always the hillclimbing option for someone. Seems a shame to break, but I can understand why.
The motor done well at MITP, very reliable.

splitting the car and engine is one thing but splitting the shell/ suspension really seems a shame.

yeah but the problem is like everyone says, its the only way to get a good price.

End of the day on a mini suspension is a bolt on mod so it can be put on any car.

I cant see me getting a good price for a rolling shell even with the amount of bits it has.

I bet there is 15k+ in the rolling shell and i would guess around 6k+ in the engine and box.

I was thinking 8k for the whole car to be honest which is cheaper than selling in parts. but its often easier to sell parts as although people can afford a few hundred here and there, they can afford a few thousand which is fair enough.

So really it is a bargain but if splitting is the easiest way, then i will. I'm not fussed.

The way i look at it is i can always have another in the future. its only a car *smiley*

i will be back with a turbo mini and most certainly will not ditch TM, its too much of a laugh! ha ha!

I havent sold it yet, nobody might want to buy it!

I need the 2 big bits sold before i can sell anything else. I dont mind which first really.

Would be very interested in the KAD brakes and probably a few other bits, but will obviously wait till the two big bits are gone.

I could also be interested in a few bits. To be fair iain, alot of the car would probably sell on here, as people are always after certain bits.

It is a shame you have to break it, but its the only way to make decent money.
