What does your engine rev to?

How much power have you got?
What gear ratios have you got?
What size wheels have you got?
What diff have you got at the moment?
What does the car weigh?

This is very difficult to answer. I would say the general rule is lower diff = better acceleration, but 3 gear changes instead of 2 could swing it. Also if you have a powerful motor having a low diff won't help much with traction. If you have a tall first gear you can live with a lower diff and more power. The combinations are endless.

I would say what do you have now and do you feel a lower diff would help acceleration then put a lower one in a see.

This page on guess works site lets you enter most of the variables that Ben mentions and will plot graphs of rev's and speed etc for given diff's

http://www.guess-works.com/Gearbox/Technical/ratio.htm

Should allow you to work out what's best for your car.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Everybody is wrong. This isnt a question, its a statement.

Congratulations on being the best diff for 0-60 times.

What is your ratio?

I have to say that I have been in a mini (as a youth) displaying 60mph in first gear, and yes we were driving. It was a bog standard 998 on 10"s with a 3.1 diff and a 'super' accurate centre speedo. It was not the quickest or cleverest way to 60 (if it was 60, which it clearly wasn't), but it was a laugh.
