Thats it, everything I ever want to bid on again is getting sniped. I'm fed up with bidding on something only to have it sniped by some cunt at the last minute for a quid more than my bid. Wankers, but I can't beat them so I'm joining in.

Yes, but their max bid might have been 150 quid....

The best way to look at it is from the 'sealed bid' persective - Come up with a max price based on how badly you want it, and how annyed you'd be if you lost it by 5 quid.

That way - if someone out-snipes / out bids you, then you know they paid more than you ever would, and it wasn't a bargain (to you).

But yes, sniping is the only way to play. I also like auctions where each bid adds 5-10 minutes to the last bid time, meaning the 'outbid' party has time to re-bid. That is fair for all.

my local auction house works on this system; it can let the auction run until everyone runs out of steam if need be. The last thing i was bidding on ran an extra couple of hours. The downside to this particular site is that you can't put in the max bid like e-bay so it keeps auto-bidding for you so you need to keep watching it and bid as if you are in the room

I dont see what the problem is. If you see something you want and set a price that you want to pay for it, what does it matter if some one else wants to pay more for it.

You can still get snipped even when you snipe, as its the person with the highest proxy bid that wins, even if everyone sniped at the last second.

I have been doing it for years, after I learned the hard way why I was loosing all the auctions I was bidding on.

I use http://www.auctionstealer.co.uk You have to register, but you dont have to subscribe, and you get 3 free snipes per week but only sniped in the last ten seconds.

Dont forget that it doesnt really matter when anyone bids whether it is 10 minuits before the auction ends or whether its in the last seconds, the person with the highest proxy bid wins. You just have to be happy that the proxy bid you place is a fair price that you are happy to pay. if you dont win, its because some one else was stupid enough to pay more for it.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Back in the good old days where MJ was proper open source and the code was free to download I made my complete MJ set up for £50 inc all the EDIS bits and getting the pulley cut.

I only really snipe stuff I desperately want - even then I set myself a realistic price.
Other stuff, I bid like a normal person.

I didn't know there was just an actual program to do this.

if I want something I always put my higest price I can afford in, in the last couple of seconds.
