I've had the last 2 days off work to get some work on the mini done.

I got a bit bored so thought I'd count the teeth of the diffs in my 2 spare gearboxes and the were both 3.1:1s

exactly what I want for the 2 engines I'm building!

1 of mine was from a 1275 '95 cooper spi german limited edition.

The othe was just a plain boring 1275 92' mini Mayfair.

the Mayfair was one of the last carb cars it's a bit of a change over model as it had an spi shell so I'm thinking an spi gearbox too maybe?

could be worth checking any spi boxes to see?

Most A+ 998s come with a 3.1.

Some have a 3.44 ie Racing Flame and some have a 2.95 ie City E.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is there any way to tell from the outside of the diff, like casting numbers or similar?

I thought it was the 10" wheel A+ had 2.9 & when it went to 12" then got 3.1 (1981-1990 998 A+)

Nope, the 12" mini city E 998 retained the 2.95.

As Paul says, most 12" wheeled 998 minis had 3.1. All metros were 3.44 wether 998 or 1275 (except for the turbo of course).
All SPi's were 3.1 or 3.2 I believe?
