I've been an idiot, i let the engine stand for about 18 months - 2 years......

Sounds alot like the solenoid on the starter is sticking.

Could be solenoid.

is the engine earthed correctly?

put live direct to starter motor this will tell you whether starter or solinoid or both |

Pull the plugs and stick a scroddy accross the terminals of the solenoid. If it turns then your solenoids dead! 1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.

not alot, say a teaspoon. Just in case rings are rusted to the bores. Then turn over by hand gently. If everything feels ok, turn over using the starter untill you have an oil pressure. Then stick plugs back in.

not trying to be a prick, but the battery is properly charged isnt it? ive had this before, and it turned out the freshly charged batt i was using was in fact, nfg......
And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers! |
