Right, im interested to know the powerbands for both of these cams if anyone has any information on them please?

I'm particularly interested in knowing the upper limit of the PH3.

I'm not really after the whole "just use the PH2 because it drives nicer etc etc" i'm really just looking at comparing the two as best i can to determine which will suit my needs.

If anyone needs measurments from them both i can do that as I have both to hand.

Thanks, James.

Are you running a Ph2 now then?

Do you have any graphs comparing the two?

I've run both these cams & I've just changed back to the P2 from the P3. The P2 is just fantastic. With the T2 I have fitted the P2 is just a much better match as my Turbo limits useful RPM with the small ex turbine. I suspect with a bigger Turbo I would have made more power with the P3 at the top end, but with this Turbo and the P2 I doubt I'm losing anything top end & gaining so much low & mid range.

I still want to try one of these phase 3 more of a suck it and see! I cant seem to find any timing figures. Avonbar dont have them on there site any more and they cost mega brass to buy these days.

Im planning on using a larger than normal turbo so could make use of the upper limit of the Ph3.

I think i will just have to invest some time and money into doing back to back tests with both cams.

When i get round to it, i will share results.

i started with a standard cam, then a ph2, then on a rebuild it was worn so replaced with the ph3 but as soon as the engine came out next i changed the cam to an MG metro and it was much better. next cam i get is a ph2

This is the powerrun for the spec as follows.

1310cc
Ph2 Cam
Timed @ 111Degress
6psi Boost
Standard Metro T3
Hif44 Turbo Carb (modified BDD Needle)
Big Intercooler (mounted on front of car)
37mm Inlet valves
31mm exhaust valves
1.5.1 Rockers
standard flywheel and backplate from 1275 engine
Crank (polished & balanced)
Straight Through Exhaust with Motorbike Can
Compression ratio (7.9:1)

My first engine build, thats why cam wasnt @ 108, but it is now and as a result much more power is being achieved with same boost + other things

But heres the printout (Rev Limiter @ 6,000rpm)

a bit off topic but am I right in saying the MED PH3 cam is similar to the Avonbar PH2?

JF had a fair sized T3 and it still was less driveable and made it slower down the strip *smiley*

Cant comment of any of the above. But fitting any camshaft to such a small engine, that might hurt low end "grunt", isnt a great idea unless its a race car that never sees low rpm usage.

Only cams Ive used, many years ago were metro, MG metro, Kent 286 n/a and lastly a SW5.

MG Metro and SW5 felt great from idle right through to 7000rpm with ease. Even pulling 7500rpm wasnt asking anything difficult of it. That was with a largish T3 ( 0.36 and Cossie compressor )

All with 1.5 rockers.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

just going from the timing figs for the ph3 it looks like it will be a pile of wank unless you are on a circuit.

I have now replaced the PH3 with a track day cam loads of overlap on the exhaust use with either 1.3's or 1.5's not too far off old GP A cam track day use tho only as power comes in at 3.5
