hey

just done the head gasket on my thou, and a couple of the pushrods were higher and lower than the rest. the higher one was an inch and half higher than the rest and the lower rod was 5-10mm lower.

a bit of playing and they seated properly, put everything back together, cranked the engine and after a few revolutions, a hitting noise was coming from the rockers, a pushrod hadnt seated on the ball of the rocker, took it out and it wouldnt seat properly.

it magically seated properly for a few minutes, but once again came unseated.

any ideas whats happening and why? and how to fix it...

cheers!

leeds/wakefield.

when you dropped the pushrods back down there holes they shopuld have all been withing 1/4" of each other sticking out of the top of the head,

it would be impossible for you to put the head back on if thye were stivking out as much as you say,

but it sound like one or two were probably fouling on the head gasket hole that they pass through, and when youve put the rockers on you have not made sure the top of the rod was not located in the adjuster ball,

the hitting will be the pushrod catching as its pushed to the side with not being located properly,

chances are youve now bent some pushrods,

you really nead someone with a bit more experience to show you what has gone wrong,

I thought that was perfectly normal due to cam lobes.

the head fitted on okay, but obviously the rockers didnt, due to the rod being so high up above the head.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

it appeared that the cam followers had come out and fallen over, so when the rods were being put in the holes, they were sitting on the sides of the followers

before you pull the push rods out always give them a few twists and a wiggle to free them off the followers. the oil sort of holds them together and when you lift the push rod out it pulls the follower up as well.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
