Without sounding dumb, can someone please explain in depth how launch control works using both fuel cut and spark retard.

I know spark retard does what it says on the tin so thats not really a problem actually. What i really want to know is how you can use fuel cut without it just creating a super lean mixture and basically bye bye engine???

I've been doing some reading but i'm struggling to find any decent info. I thought i understood it when i thought it was all spark retard but then i read that its actually mostly fuel cut?! Is that bullshizzle or not?

Cheers, James.

If the fuel is cut completely (for any given cylinder at any given point in the cycle) the mixture won't be "lean" and burn hot.... there will be nothing to burn, so no heat, no damage.

But there will be nothing to keep the turbine spooled up during launch or flat shifts, so it's a bit of a compromise.

There are a few worthwhile threads on the MS-Extra forum about it, and traction control too, which I find much more interesting.

You can choose what you want with the MS, we're just going for spark cut.

Fuel cut isn't a good idea on a FI engine and with the spark cut you can still generate boost so that seems to be the best way.

Thats what confused me with the fuel cut. People were talking about fuel cut and then talking about generating boost on the line...that didnt make sense to me, and now i know why! Its bollocks!

Spark cut seems the right way to go on a boosted engine.

cheers guys.

Im off to the ms-extra forums.
