I have searched, but not found the answer.

We're getting close to turboing our metro van and have been thingking about the fuel lines.

We're going to run the standard 6mm feed and run an extra 8mm return.

We plan to drill a hole in the fuel sender in the tank (with it removed from the tank... ) and put a brass 8mm hose fitting in to connect the return to. Something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=390089137694

My questions are:

1) Will the narrower i.d. of the brass fitting cause any restrictions in the flow of the return into the tank (excess back preasure effecting the regulator)?
2) Will the fuel entering the tank interfere with the fuel level sender? The picture in my head is of the returning fuel pushing down onto the float arm.

My own experience is that it is best to put the return in at the absolute top of the tank - that way internal pressures/restrictions/ fuel level cannot affect the operation of the regulator as it will allways be spilling back into an open space.

EDIT - hang on, if it's a Metro Van. isn't the sender mounted in the top of the tank anyway ??? (unlike the Mini tank where it's near the bottom).

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

It's not in the top. About half way up I think.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

It's near the top of one of the sides.

I was going to put it near the top of the sender, so it would be about 7/8 up the side of the tank.

There's rarely more than a tenner in the van, so fuel level probably won't be an issue *wink*

Another thought. There is a breather that runs from the top of the filler neck back into the top centre of the tank. could we T into that or would it cause breathing issues

The return into a Metro turbo fuel tank returns into the bottom of the swirl pot and funnels down to about a 3mm outlet. It acts as a jet pump to draw fuel from the main body of the tank into the swirl pot thereby keeping it full as the tank is near dry

If you don’t have a swirl pot to shroud the fuel pick up you need to keep the returning fuel away from the pick up as this may cause fuel starvation at low fuel levels.
There is no need to return it as high up in the tank as possible just make sure you aim the return away from the pickup. I have my return aimed at the tank wall to take the energy out of the returned fuel.

As for fittings you need these:

Thi is the tank I did for Gino R32

Thanks for the info.

So I need to put a bit of curved pipe through the sender, aiming away from the pickup and fit it with compresion fittings.

Should remove any restriction too as it will be 8mm all the way through

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

'T'ing into the the pump feed works i did it at first it worked no problem so having the return 1/2 or even 3/4 the way up the tank cant be worse can it? if you never fill the tank over the return hight imo i cant see a problem, but to do it properly fit the return at the top and not have to worry again :)

and Mr Joshua those fittings are nice :)

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Swageloc kin expensive! but fitting pipes is a piece of pooh with no more constant streching of pipes over fittings. I would do mine but cant be arsed (it works leave well alone)
